Two cracking goals last night from Mackie.

A 100% effort player that has had a few injuries this season.

Always wanted to sign him when he was a Plymouth player!!

Hard to answer the poll on here.

does the original poster mind also confirming a potential transfer fee, wages, agents fee, RFC budget for next season, how Mackie performs on the training ground, how well he sticks to tactics, how well he forms bonds with team mates, results of his medical and then finally the alternative players we could have to Mackie with all the above info on them too please?

I would say if the price is right, definitely.

100% commitment, eye for goal, versatile - shame about the injuries, but judging by the way he interacts with the other players and the manager, seems to be well liked.

I think you've got to take the poll as not if we should sign him, but rather, should the club attempt to sign him? As BBCRB liked to point out yesterday, we don't know what Forest will want for him, perhaps they'll try to bump up any price on the back of his purple patch, maybe we'll be able to get him cheap as he's seemingly not wanted there.

Definitely sign him in my humble opinion. If he happens to have 9 footballing brothers with his work ethic then sign them too. :D

I can't think of one footballing brother with his work rate. S'pose Jason Roberts always put in a shift.

Much as i like him, I thunk it depends on who else we can bring in and who we can shift.

We've currently got McCleary, Blackman, Mackie, Edwards and Stacey for right wing.

And Cox, Pog, Blackman, HRK, Yak and Mackie for upfront.

Assuming Edwards and Yak are gonnas, it depends if we can shift Blackman for me.

Wages are still an issue and I'd far rather let Mackie go and sign a left winger where we've only got an out of sorts HRK, a wing back Obita and Fosu.

Definitely worth signing as his commitment and work rate is what the fans want to see. I watched him in his early career at Plymouth and he was always a natural striker who harassed the central defenders. Glad to see he was played up front last night and scored a couple. Much better than Cox and always prepared to shoot and most times on target. Not surprised to see him hitting form now that his fitness/injury problems have receded and is given a consistent run in the team. Love to sign him permanently

Always liked his work ethic & commitment. In recent weeks he's also shown some end product - coinciding with getting a chance up front.

If the money is right I would sign him.

On current form Mackie is our best player, so it makes sense to look into signing him permanently.

Forest signed him for £1m, his current deal runs out in summer 2016. Wonder if Forest may want to get a reasonable transfer fee since his value will start crashing next season turning 30 with only 1 year on his contract, reckon we could get him for 500k. They are probably more desperate to sell as they are likely to fall foul of FFP again so would not only need to start recovering some money, under an FFP embargo they have to let a player go before they can sign another one and I think even then the can only buy someone who is of overall less value than the player they sold, how they regulate that, I have no idea.

Can't they only offer contracts of equal or lower value to incoming players ? If they are under an embargo I don't think they can pay fees for players.

The big things mentioned as regards to embargos is that clubs cannot pay a transfer fee for a player and wages per annum cannot exceed 75% of the player going out or a maximum of £600k (£11,538 per week), the latter probably being the likely value for a club like Forest.

Yeah, get the point, but I don't think people are naively thinking short-term
"Wow, he scored."

Instead I think Mackie is the ideal Reading "type" reminding me of Shane Long,
and-or the Hunt brothers. I would love to see two £20 Million strikers leading
the line, but failing that I would live to have Mackie alongside another terrier-like
player.

I remember, I think it was the Everton Centre-Back who praised Long-Hunt saying
that they never gave the back four a minute's rest. Bugger "class" I want to see
committed players, wearing their hearts on their sleeve, taking one for the lads,
going in when it hurts, and getting goals where a goal isn't on.

With the change in leadership at Forest, they might want him back. That's got to be factored in.

I remember when he was playing for QPR he was their top scorer (maybe even Championship top scorer?) before he got injured in the first season they went up in recent times (2010/11). I thought he hasn't quite looked the same player since that long term injury but still a useful player to have and perhaps playing upfront is his best position?

Assuming things are pretty normal for us in terms of money in the summer (won't be spending much, in other words), I'd definitely take him on.

Mackie went to Forest for £1m, and his value wont have gone up I wouldn't have thought. Year left on his deal? Could pick him up well within budget surely.

RoyallyFcuked I remember when he was playing for QPR he was their top scorer (maybe even Championship top scorer?)

He was Championship top scorer after 7 matches, with eight goals, but by the time of his injury in January he only had nine goals (thanks to a 13-match goalless streak). Taarabt was their top scorer by then.
