Maybe we could order some rumblestix? Lyrics sheets on seats? Maybe a karaoke sing-along on the big screen?

Why are these awful ideas? You know, deep in your hearts, why these are all crap ideas - because they've been artificially introduced in a top down fashion. It only works if it comes from the fans, not from the club's marketing department.

So. Terry and June it is. Used to have that as my ringtone, back in the days when you could programme your own into your Nokia 3310.

Plenty of clubs have songs that were started by their clubs rather than flowed spontaneously from the fans.
Who cares, it either works or it doesn't and the fans have had years to come up with something themselves .
Terry and June was great, but hasn't been heard at any volume for years.
And Caroline at least has a story too it, unlike Ashes, or Don't Stop Wheebling

No Fixed Abode Can't stand Sweet Caroline. A truly awful song that gets wheel out at social club parties all across the UK.

Ashes>>>>>>>Sweet Caroline.

Comfortably Numb is a great piece of music and much better than Ashes, but it wont work as a sing along by a football crowd. Surely even you can see that there are different needs here?

Armadillo Roadkill It only works if it comes from the fans

This is never going to happen though is it. Stop being so petty about it and get in board like the vast majority of fans did on Tuesday.

It's like giving yourself a nick name. It always, 100% of the time makes you look lie a w@nker. "Inventing" a club song does the same. I'm sorry if you thinking pointing that out makes someone petty.

Well except the club didn't think of playing Sweet Caroline, if Blakey didn't say anything then it would have never even been considered.

Surely we have someone in the music business as a fan. Let a professional come up with something better i.e. something that builds, repetitive and easy to remember - all the things sweet caroline doesn't have

Chelsea and Leeds both have club songs that the club instigated. Bubbles at West Ham started in a very similar way to what is happening with Sweet Caroline.
I guess some people think every club song started out with a group of mates singing something down the pub prematch. Just not true, although funnily enough it is just how Sweet Caroline got a Royals connection.....

I-see Mike Youles has suggested a new song that looks totally embarrassing. Brings to mind when the Reading Chronicle started a competition for a Reading song many years ago.The winner was
Reading your the tops - We all thinks thats true - Reading your the tops - we all have our faith in you! !to the music of a Freddie Dreamers hit!
Closely followed by Beat em all, beat em all, at home and away on the ball, there win us promotion, while the ball is in motion, so come on Reading beat em all - the music was (i think) from the 1940,s and the title was Bless em all

Hopefully we have moved on since then!!

Someone have a word with Simon Gallup then.
I'm sure he could get his mate to knock up a bit of a Gothic Royals anthem !

You might also need to register to Sweet Caroline as it has all the components you describe. Whether that makes it good or not us another matter

So, in conclusion, the new club songs are going to be Comfortably Numb and something by The Cure?

Have people forgotten or are they simply not aware of 'Biscuitmen' by Violet Class? Good tune, Reading FC through and through. Just not sure people would sing along to it pre match.

brings back memories of 05/06!

Happy days!

Although after the game I heard some teenage fans talking and one asked why we were playing that old song

Shame, quite like it personally, probably cos it's made by fans.
