The Tannoy bloke

by Nobby » 17 Mar 2015 22:22

For the last few home matches I've been cringing at the 1970s DJ impersonator who seems to be trying to create atmosphere by wittering nonsense and playing music at deafening levels.
I can't wait until he hands over to Paul Allen on the pitch.
I would imagine he's the same dipstick who played music for the Bradford pitch invader. Does anyone know who it is?

I also dislike this guy, he seems to growl everything to try and be dramatic (whilst making little sense) - 'Fans of the Rrrrrroyals, hold your scaaaaarves aloft!!'

No, piss off

They have probably borrowed him from Jack FM.

In which case on Monday he was broadcasting to an audience about 10 times bigger than he normally does....

Stop you there...!!! It's coincided with ATMOSPHERE, so deal with it. It's working!! Better this than none at all.

Correlation does not imply causation...

I would suggest that the small matter of an FA Cup quarter final might have contributed to the atmosphere, just a tad.

Of course, but the previous league game saw an improved atmosphere as well. It's making a difference. Not everyone will like it, but give it time and it may become more original and the old songs replace the clappity clap of the band's noise.

ArfnipIsARoyal He is the same bloke who does the announcing at Bracknell Bees.

hmm, I thought I recognised the voice, as I used to watch Bracknell a while back.

The levels of cheese, believe it or not, have been toned down compared to his stint there.

I used to actually know the guy when he was young. I remember him quitting his job* at Ferranti and the training officer looked at what he was wearing and sneered "What are you going to do? Become a DJ or something?"

* I say "job"...his department wasn't long for the axe, and he had so little work to do that he was told to take a book into the toilet and hide all day, so the bosses wouldn't see.

All this "stadium dynamics" nonsense rather misses the point though. Crowds are quiet because the football's so awful, so there's no enthusiasm.

There is an easy solution to all of this:

Bring back Jonathan Richards!

JR was innocent and he is a proper fan.

my favourite bit is when they loudly announce the final score just after the whistle has gone as if people weren't aware.

What was it he did again to warrant his departure? - Play Daydream believer when we played Mark McGhee's side wasn't it?

Didn't Boyd Butler do the PA for a game or two - I always remember it for "Reading Goalscorer - Ipswich Town"
