Just remember Fergie after 3 years was in exactly the same position.

MmmMonsterMunch The knives are well & truly out for him now. Was reading some forums yesterday and most comments were "Talks a good game but no substance", "the players had no idea what they were supposed to be doing", "death by football" & also referring to his dossier of tactics.

 All sounds so very familiar.

Trophy-less, sure. But there wasn't a single Liverpool fan claiming the players had no idea what they were doing when they finished 2nd last season. Nor indeed when they went unbeaten for 12 games recently when Rodgers switched to 3-4-3.

Fickle fans. Rodgers is a very good manager.

Agreed. Would be bollocks to sack him now. Had an unbelievable season last season, then lost their star player. Has to be given one more season at the very least.

But the worst Liverpool manager since Phil Taylor in the 50's.

I don't think Rodgers is a good manager - he's a good coach, but as a manager i'm just not sure...

He was praised for his dealing with Suarez at the start of last season during his contract dispute; and has been credited for Sterling's development as a player too.

Suarez - bit his way out of his contract. Just like he did at Ajax. I don't know how anyone could blame Rodgers for this. But, on the other hand, Rodgers didn't sign him.

Sterling. Has had to handle him with kid gloves. Didn't Sterling refuse to play for QPR juniors and engineered the move to Liverpool? It's hardly surprising he's doing what he's doing now. Liverpool and well and truly in the 2nd tier of European clubs currently , whatever their fans say. Rodgers didn't sign him either.

However, of the players signed in Rodgers tenure none of them have pulled up any trees. Coutinho currently being the best of the lot. Allen, Borini, Ballotelli, Llallana, Lovren, Lambert and Mignolet - you can't say they've performed as expected.

I didn't realise Rodgers has spent over 200 million on 24 players. That's shocking and really can't continue. I recon he's got 4 or 5 good ones out of that.

At best.

This is par for big clubs. It's probably not to different to Man U and Chelsea, a bit better than Spurs and City and not as good as Arsenal. Most incoming transfers are rubbish.

A Liverpool fan walks into a travel agent and says "I can't think of anywhere nice to go for a holiday." The travel agent replies "You can't beat a good villa this time of year."

We'll see. I can't see FSG giving him more cash when he's spunked £200m + on a load of sh1t.

What he said about Spurs & that they ought to be competing for the league title if they've spent £100m is biting him on the arse now.

Couldn't happen to a nice fella. Personally I think he's completely out of his depth & they are starting to see through all the David Brent bollox that he spouts.

“I started coaching for one reason and that was to make a difference for people, not just as footballers but as human beings.”

 What an utter douche

I'd really be interested to see a comparison of this for the top teams over the last three years.

But just not quite interested enough to go and compile it myself.

I'd be even more interested in what % of players in, make the grade. And a cost of that etc.

Was Sturridge a Rodgers signing too?

But in general yes, his signings haven't generally proven brilliant. But then that's what you get when you establish a policy of signing potential over proven talent, and that's the approach of FSG as much as Rodgers. In Sakho and Markovic and Can they have three of Europe's most promising young players. Liverpool aren't in the league of being able to buy 21/22 year olds who will slot straight into the team and perform every week.

I dunno - I'm a bit of a football romantic and like managers being given time to 'build' something; would love Monk, for example, to stay at Swansea, the team he captained, and build that squad into a European challenge. But I expect him to go to Newcastle in the summer. I'm not convinced any manager would have achieved more than Rodgers has in his time at the club, give or take a (relatively) meaningless cup win. Nearly winning the title last season, from a base of 7th place, was no mean feat.

United have pretty much gone back to Fergie's team with a few additions and have been pretty successful recently. If LVG was being judged on his signings he'd be in the same boat as Brendan

Shaw - 30 million
AdM - 60 million
Falcao - 40 million (if signed)
Rojo - 17 million

Shaw has been injured but the others have been pretty gash and deservedly sat on the bench. Blind has been the only good* signing for LVG. Mata, Fellaini & Herrarra (identified by Fergie) where Moyes signings

Yes, the seemingly continuously injured and self diagnosing Sturridge was one of his signings. It's difficult to know if he was shipped out because of these injuries (as he undoubtedly has talent) or wether Chelsea just didn't think he was good enough.

I wonder how many of these players they expect to come through the ranks, 10%? 20%? 30%?. If it's only 10% then they may as well buy 2 top notch players for 200 million.

Get your settled team with established internationals and into the Champions League, then use this to entice the younger players in.

Just a thought.

Harsh to add Falcao in there - he's not made the grade at United and doesn't appear to be in a position when a contract will be offered.
I'm not a Rojo lover but I think Shaw and AdM are good signings.

just basing it on what I've seen this season.

- Falcao returning from injury etc on loan was a no-brainer. Paying £40million for him on reputation alone, not so sure
- Shaw has been injured a lot but played well against Chelsea. Needs to get and stay fit
- AdM undoubted quality but Young is keeping him out of the side 4fs

Jordan Henderson has just signed a new 5 year deal worth £100k a week. Jordan Henderson on £100k a week. He's decent enough but £100k a week decent?
