For all the hype, the fact that a team as consistently poor as Liverpool are going to finish 5th (or Man Utd, despite their terrible first 2/3rds of the season, are going to finish 4th) suggests that the Premier League is actually not very good at all.

And, for all the hype, their record with Gerrard playing (this season) is significantly worse than when he isn't (a win percentage of 37% vs 59% apparently!).

Him moving on might well be a blessing in disguise for them.

Weird season for Liverpool – can’t help feeling there was considerable sentiment in Gerrard getting so many games, for every change Rodgers made to include him (Henderson at wing-back, Can at right-back, Lucas not in the squad at all) seemed to be to the detriment of the team.
Likewise Sterling played too many games at wing-back or as a lone striker.

If they hold on to Sterling, can get Sturridge fit, and with Milner likely to come in, they might be only a couple of astute signings from challenging again, but it’s a big if.
