It doesn't matter how good last years squad looked on paper, they performed very poorly and it needs to be addressed. We still can't afford some of the players and their wages we're lumbered with and so the squad has to be stripped back.
It's not concerning that we haven't announced players as signed yet, or that rumoured signings have yet been confirmed. It is a bit worrying that the manager is already making noises that his hands are being tied and that the owners need to be more decisive or we will start to lose out on his targets.
IMO, it will only really get worrying in a couple of weeks time if we haven't bought in at least the 3 players Clarke is expecting and if he hasn't got a bit of room to work with bringing in 2 or 3 more.
For me it's not so much about the perceived quality of the players, we've all seen how people can have bizarre perceptions of the quality of the likes of Pearce who's then gone on to win two promotions from this division or Robson-Kanu who's gone on to continually under-perform. It's so much more about the quality of the team and momentum that Clarke can build and that doesn't need a load of superstars like Guthrie and Drenthe to put it together.
