Theres a further interview up on the official site too, and he comes across really well - although obviously not ideal that they mention walking away if it's not profitable. Equally, they certainly seem to have a lot of ideas and the financial backing to try and bring more to the stadium, plus an understanding that they can do everything in the world to make it more exciting but no-one will come if the teams awful.

Also, only based on Twitter so probably made up, but a bit of talk about a deal being struck with Thai Sports TV to broadcast our games? Have my doubts on that one but it would be a great injection of cash, increase fan-base, and all importantly we'd be able to stream awkwardly positioned fixtures!

So, they use up some of the car parking space to build an arena and then build a new car park? Where is all this extra land coming from then? the car parking area will be significantly smaller than it is at the moment - maybe they are getting rid of the Park & Ride though.

I'm guessing these fairly high powered business people have sent someone out to the car park and checked the space. Not likely they are going to buy a Mega Arena flat pack then find it's just a bit too big to fit....

The obvious spare space is where the dome, training pitch and associated buildings are as they will all move to Bearwood.
The current car park (maybe made multi level) then serves stadium and Arena.

No doubt, as he says, all will be revealed if and when they agree a plan with RBC, and find a way round whatever petty objections Wokingham come up with.

So you think that they are considering building some sort of "event arena" there with no extra provision for parking?
It's well known that RBC are anti-car, but even they might see the potential flaw at planning stage.

That's the area of the car park that some have said the PP is for. Guess we'll find out soon enough by the sounds of it.

I would guess the comment about walking away if the club can't be made profitable is aimed well and truly at the council.
A successful club is a huge asset to the town, the Thai's are making it clear they have a plan and are ensuring the council don't throw scanners in the works.

I think it's a great idea. Reading severely lacks in a decent arena/large theatre venue, and i just so happen to be a venue manager with arena and theatre experience so...y'know, i'm all for it.

Ginger, do you reckon Reading could support a decent sized venue ? Would bands play this close to London ? Have Basingstoke, Oxford and Wycombe already got established venues that are after the same acts ?

I think you could. Not an O2 sized arena, but a smaller one with a 6-8k (bit bigger than the Hammersmith Apollo/Brixton Academy, bit smaller than Wembley Arena) capacity with a set of function suites to enable large conferences. There's already "sell-out" events that play the Hexagon because of a lack of better venue. Reading already has a marketable music reputation thanks to the festival. If it's a decent venue managed properly, build and they will come.
