Cilla Black

by Midlandroyal » 02 Aug 2015 15:16

To all the Reading fans who lead the excellent singing in the East Stand, can I please make a humble plea.

I know that for many years, there has been a song linking Sir John with Cilla Black but I see from the BBC news today that she has died today at the age of 72.

Can we please show some respect and drop this song from our repertoire? - We should show respect to Cilla and obviously Sir John will be grieving too.

Thank you for your co-operation as true fans

Who died and made you chant director?

Besides, he's clearly moved on to shagging Lady Sas.

sandman Who died and made you chant director?
Cilla Black.

Out of respect for Cilla & Sir John I won't be singing that chant (not that I did sing it as I felt it was disrespectful) nor another SJM chant with similar lyrics that may cause others to sing the original version, however I don't need someone to tell me this. I imagine those who do need telling are the sort to sing it anyway with no regard for others ...hopefully we don't have too many of those sort of fans.

Is the will out already?

Personally won't be singing it either but I won't be telling others what to do either.

No doubt some fans will sing it anyway, and wonder why JM wouldn't find in funny, as it's just "banter"

I think their numbers will be so few though, that JM wouldn't hear it anyway. Much like most of our singing really.

Seems like a perfectly reasonable request as its aimed at a collective rather than individuals.

Those answering as individuals saying they don't need telling need to stop being morons as it wasn't aimed at you specifically, unlike this little dig, which you're fine to take issue with.

Nice to know you feel qualified/conscientious enough to answer for everyone though. xxx

Perhaps we could dispense with Sweet Caroline and adopt a Cilla song instead. At least it would something to sing along to.

I think thats a fair request and personally i would happy to taake part in a minutes applause as well.
Not a fan of SJM but some things are more important than that. She attended many of our games and was the butt of some terrace banter so respect is due.

Maybe if we re-sign Adam Le Fondre, we can sing a Cilla song and he can tell us what it's all about.

A rendition of Surprise Surprise at the Leeds game would be a fitting tribute. Please hand out song sheets.

Maybe best to wait for the coroner to rule out being hit between the eyes as the cause of death first.
