According to @AlexHuber81 we have increased our bid for Beric to 5.4 Million euros. #readingfc

St. Etienne's offer is reportedly far below this amount of €5.4 mio. Decision should be made in the next week, says president Krammer #Beric

Lacoste But it still might not be enough to land Beric, with Rapid president Michael Krammer suggesting the club may now want more to sell their prized asset.
He said: “For this sum there was a deadline in July. Now it is so much more difficult for us to get good substitute.
“Not later than our match against Mattersburg on Saturday should the matter be clarified,”
The possible sale of Beric, whether to Reading or St. Etienne, who have seen a lower bid rejected, also seems to rest on the Austrian club’s Champions League qualifier against Shakhtar Donetsk.
Vienna are 1-0 down going into tonight’s second leg against the Ukrainian side, but should they pull off a shock turnaround and qualify for the group stages of Europe’s elite competition, Krammer says Beric will not be sold.
“Then Robert must understand that there can be no release,” he said.

tidus_mi2 I can see the argument that he has an affinity towards Rapid Wien and wants to get into the Champions League with them but if they fail, going to Reading, albeit in the Championship gets him into England, the most watched country when it comes to football with the best TV deals, if he comes here and does well, he is then a proven striker in England and it would only be a matter of time before he is playing in the Premier League.

TommioLacosteTommio If they Rapid don't qualify for the champions league then beric will 100% sign for us, gut feeling.
I can see the logic actually. Rapid fail to reach the CL so he signs for RFC, who are not in the CL.
This one is over. He will leave Rapid and if he doesn't get a club playing in the CL, he will at least be playing for a top flight club in a top league somewhere.
The logic is, he won't be getting champions league football at Rapid, so he moves to England where there is a chance to further his career and get to the premier league.

Drew_3 I would be delighted to see us sign him but it's classic Reading maneuvering again.
We could have got him for this figure but there was a deadline as the article explains we baulked at it and a good deal of time has elapsed. Beric has now scored more goals and we have seen other options fail to come to fruition. Now we go back in with the offer they wanted but it leaves them no time to get a replacement so they may not accept the offer.
The whole thing smacks of Tommy Smith.

It doesn't smack of Tommy Smith at all. It does though smack of typical Reading thinking big and not being prepared to act big. We've seen it before with other players we've 'apparently' wanted, but wouldn't cough up for. I just can't see us paying this much for one player, not when the manager told fans at the weekend we didn't have much to play with, and we know he wants a few more if he can get them. So £4m + on one player? Doesn't make sence.
