TBM
CountryRoyal I'm confused, have ASSE matched our bid yet?

All bids have been accepted

Not much of a decision then is it. European football in front of 40,000 or championship football in front of 20,000.

ST Ettiene are yet to meet the asking price. Well that was the latest update anyway.

If that's the case how can he be in discussions with them about personal terms? Thought the two clubs had to agree a fee first.

I really hope he isn't the only striker we are chasing.

Watts reporting Watford want to sell Vydra and are asking for big money - personally would prefer Vydra as he's proven in this league!

He's almost twice the price of Beric.

Officially maybe, but in reality lots of these deals are all agreed between the club and the player whilst the two clubs negotiate over the fee.

Chances are, it'll come down to wages and whether he wants to play in the PL. I have no idea how much St. Etienne could pay in wages, but if it's similar to us, he may decide the exposure he'll get by playing in England will get him a move to the PL faster.

I'd say there's probably just as much chance of us signing him, as there is him going to St. Etienne or staying at Rapid, right now.

 No chance....

You're going on the fact that he wants to play in the Premier League - not every player wants that. Some just want to be part of a successful team, competing in the best competitions each season (ie Europe)

Tell you what, if we sign him i'll run on the pitch, at the next game i go to, and do a "pudding"

It's all hypothetical. If he wants wages and exposure in England, we are arguably best placed to offer him that. If he wants to play European football in a first division team, then we never had a prayer of getting him.

I still think it could happen, depends on what he wants.

He could see from recent times our most successful striker (ALF) scored goals in the Championship and Premier League and could only earn a move sideways.

According to Rapid fans, ASSE have only bid 3 million Euros .... so it's far from a done deal.

True. He might also see a number of other players who have moved from us to PL sides over the past 8 years or so.

Yeah, he only really has to look at players like Gylfi & Long.

If he comes here and does well, he'll be playing in a premier league team in 2-3 years.

Do we really want to be his stepping stone though?

Yes, because it'll mean he's had 2/3 good season with us and we'd be selling him for more than we brought him.

Yes. Why would you not?
Best case 'stepping-stone' scenario: He takes Reading up
Worst case 'steping stone' scenario: He does wonders for Reading, and Reading make a big profit selling to a prem club in a few years.

So st ettienne are playing brinkmanship with fees when we've had one accepted. Sounds like doesn't want to come here and it's 50/50 between him staying or them stumping up.

He won't come here. Time to focus on other potential signings.
