Just my op Hectors agent got a good low release on his contract whereas Readings side its not a good deal especially how easy these release clauses are found out about. Perhaps sacked too strong but something. :x

Samrfc01 £4m for a our 3rd choice centre-back is good money.

I'd rather we kept him but i'm not overly upset by it as long as we get someone in.

Well except he's our 1st choice centre back but in poor form right now.

No he's not.

McShane is 1st choice. You could make an arguement for Hector being 2nd choice but Ferdinand has performed far better than him.

Don't get me wrong, i'd rather he stayed but he's replaceable.

Hoop Blah

WoodleyRoyal apparently he had a 4mill release clause

If thats right whoever did the new contract should be sacked.

Hector's previous contract was due to expire at the end of this season. He could easily have run that down and gone on a free (with compensation due) or go for a lot less this summer with only the 12 months left on the contract. The cub would've been held over a barrel on it to a certain extent.

£4m is a decent price as well, even in this window full of crazy fees.

Charlton reportedly got £3.5m for Gomez, a player which much more potential and an extra 5 years left in him than Hector.

How long was Hectors exstention then? Or did you mean gomez had 5 years not an extra 5?

Anyhow still think its bad

He means he's five years younger than him.

We need to get someone else in CB if he's off. That is a must. It isn't ideal though, I'd much prefer we kept him, and £4m imo does seem too little.

If we can get Vydra in and that Wycombe CB then losing Hec wouldnt be too bad.

If that is £4M without needing add ons to get there and he is loaned to us for the season then that is a good deal for us.

Would prefer him to stay, but if he has to go then we got good money for him.

£4m and back on loan giving us the funds to bring Vydra in on a perm deal?

Would be happy if that turns out being the case.

Gomez was under contract until 2017, but was only 18 and was playing very well in the Championship at that age.

Hector is 23 and his old contract was due to expire in 2016, the new one keeping him under contract until 2018. At 18 Hector was making a handful of appearances for Bracknell, Havent & Waterlooville, Didcot Town and Oxford City.

Gomez supposedly went for £3.5m.

We also dont know if there were other agreements around the deal. Piazon may not have happened if Hector didnt go there for example

Why is it a bad deal though?

In what world are people paying much more for players of that level? I may well be wrong but I can't remember too many Championship centre halfs for going for much more.

A certain Matt Mills went for upwards of £5m

Hoop Blah £4m for a 23 year old player who's only really played one season in the Championship, and that was that saw his side flirting with relegation and gifting the opposition far too many soft goals, is a pretty good price if you ask me.

All this talk of great potential, he's 23 and still get in the side ahead of Anton Ferdinand and Paul McShane. I hate the think what the reaction would be were we bidding that kind of money on a player with those credentials.

I can't for the life of me figure out why Chelsea are even considering it to be honest.

Pretty much this really.
