RoyallyFcuked Looks like this one is happening as well, another really good bit of business IMO.

I rated this guy at Watford and he was unlucky not to get more game time as they had two other very good strikers for this level in Deeney and Ighalo, so you can see why he is available.

A player who has proven he can score goals at this level, can't moan at that can we?

Apparently we can.

Come on, be fair, give #bushwatch aka Jacob South Klein credit for that picture - he's taking his life in his hands facing up to Nick Hammond in order to get us this stuff!

Who are the two performance artists leading the way there?

blueroyals I don't care how good he is, £3.5m for a loan is stupid. Would have been better off keeping Pogrebnyak on his stupid wages.

£2.5m according to CW.

genome I meant on our side, not Watford's.

I know you did. We pay £2M but don't get the asset. Watford get £2M and keep the asset. Signing him for £5-6M at least gives us an asset with some potential resale value. Therefore I don't think £2M loan fee is similar value to signing for the higher fee on a permanent basis.

And that's not a moan, just pointing out that one way might appear better value than the other.

£2.5m loan fee according to Charlie, equalling our record transfer fee, I can only assume we have some option for a permanent transfer with some money off.

You're talking like £3-4m is small change....

If paying £2m gets us promotion then its money well spent.....if it doesn't then we've lost £2m and not £6m (which we would never get back for him, should we fail to go up)

I think (hope) that is the case

Watford signed him earlier in the summer on a 5 year contract for a fee of 6M and so we had no chance of getting him on a permanent as they see him as "one for the future". Obviously it is a massive gamble but if we pay out 2.5M and he scores 20 and gives us a chance of getting to the PL then a gamble well worth taking.

I am hugely excited by this signing as he is proven at this level - whereas Beric for example would have cost more and might not have worked out in the rough and tough of Championship football.

Vydra would have been top of my list at the start of the summer but did not think we had a hope of getting him.

Thanks Chelsea for funding the deal.

Starting to worry that we're a bit 'all eggs in one basket' for the season with this. Got to think the Thais are expecting promotion with loans like this. Doom for Clarke if we don't?

I wasn't referring to it in that manner at all, just pointing out that they weren't really directly comparable ratios. And whilst we probably wouldn't get the £6M back we might get £4M? And if he performed really well his value might be greater.

In my view Watford have got the better deal but I'm still glad we have got him (if indeed we have).

Maybe they think we will be in a better financial position next year to make permanent signings so we have had to make do with loan deals this year.

If Vydra scores 20-25 goals this season, he will have been worth the fee.

The club is about to break it's transfer record on a oxf*rd loan. This is what happens when you spend all summer pissing around with other targets who don't want to come. Laughable.
