sandman Jamie Redknapp - "they obviously are expecting him to come in straight away and challenge John Terry"

Jim White - "Have to stop you there Jamie as I understand he's going straight back to Reading on loan"

Yet another player joins the long list to go elsewhere to initially sit on the bench and ultimately disappear back to the championship or the lower leagues, will they ever learn?

I like that the images of his best bits according to the official twitter account include him in the process of kicking Lionel Messi in the balls

How do we reckon the £4m works in the context of the loan-back? All the cash up front? What if he picks up a bad injury during the loan spell, deal cancelled?

Yep because Steve Sidwell has rotted in the lower leagues

To be fair only Gylfi has really moved onwards and upwards. Shane Long perhaps ditto, and Steve Sidwell is at best a good PL squad player. At the risk of being shown up, I can't immediately think of any other ex RFC really tearing up the PL.

BR2 Agree with Hoops that this is about the right price.
Unfortunately for us with signings like McShane and Ferdinand, 2 players somewhere between Championship and Premier League standard and in the case of Ferdinand now too old/injury-prone for the Premier League,it looks as though we are building a side to stay in the Championship.
That may well be o.k. with the club then trying to build from that stability but with McCarthy, Jem and now Hector going it feels more as though we are a journeymen club rather than one building for a future.
Why does it take so long to get rid of those like Church (stayed far too long) and Robson-Kanu who (mainly) came through our system as well?
The obvious answer must be that they are not good enough and so not wanted elsewhere but whereas we might have built a side round McCarthy, Jem and Hector we surely won't build a challenging side around the enormous width of HRK.

Sometimes people oxf*rd amaze me then after a few minutes irritate me.

What has tearing up the Premier League got to do with anything. All three you mention have made very good careers out of leaving us and ultimately playing at a higher level. I fail to see why people get all upset about people leaving RFC for a chance of having a far better career somewhere else, it's very small minded

We buy a player with potential - he does well out on loan - if he impresses - we keep him, if he doesn't we get to sell him on for 'most probably' a small profit having been at one of the biggest clubs in Europe.

Is that why he captained Fulham in the PL for a while.

Depends on what constitutes "ex-Reading". Bertrand is a guaranteed starter for a top-half club and Austin scored 18 goals last season for a relegated side.
