Thing is, we needed a quality keeper in Feds last season because our team was so oxf*rd and disjointed we were conceding a large amount of shots each game, suddenly we now concede the lowest amount of shots in the league so realistically we can get away with just a decent keeper.

I think it's a shame Atkins wasn't given this kind of budget to work with.....he is by far a better manager than Clarke.....

If you look at the majority of clubs in the Championship though, they are all pretty much in the same position as we are...ie taking a risk!

The squad needed an overhaul and the players we now have are a definite improvement on what we did have, once you take out all of the rose tinted nostalgic views about players like Jem, pearce etc and the expensive signings of the previous regime. Ok so we now have a load of loanees but quite frankly if they provide entertainment and score a few goals...I will be happy.

This is modern football unfortunately...and the jackpot for getting to the Premier League is so high that you have to take a few risks along the way...the difference between the Thais and Anton is that the risks this time around seem to be with a few 'get-outs' to ensure we don't end up paying someone £65k a week for the next 4years! This transfer window has shown that the Reading way is still there, in some ways it's just the 2015 version...we haven't thrown silly money at it and yet we have got a lot of potential quality in the squad now.

Look at a team like Derby...their squad on paper has cost them a hell of a lot more and their early season performances haven't been anything to write home about...so today they have now gone out and spent £10m on 2 players!!! compare this to Clarke who has got a whole squad together for less!!! I don't see what all the fuss is about from some of our supporters...

From what I have seen so far, I would say that like for like McShane, Quinn & Sa are most certainly better than the players they have replaced (Pearce, Jem & Pog) and the players signed since the season started certainly look like they will only add to what we already have...and then you add in Ferdinand aswell...

RoyallyFcuked We have brought in -(Just first teamers in this list)

Orlando Sa
Paolo Hurtado
Jonathan Bond
Ali Al-Habsi
Alex Fernandez
Paul McShane
Stephen Quinn
Andrew Taylor
Lucas Piazon
Matej Vydra
Ola John

Anyone saying our business this summer has been bad (including the Vydra deal) is clueless. Don't care what anyone says, we are now stronger in EVERY position except probably goalkeepers but we now have strength in depth in every position.

This is a squad that is easily capable of finishing in the top 6 at least and I'm guna stick my neck out and say we will be promoted this season.

Relying very heavily on youngster Keown if Gunter crocks it.

My take away from this window is that if nothing else we will be a lot of fun to play with on FIFA...

Vydra clearly wants prem football. In the event of Reading attaining premiership football and Vydra playing a significant part in this surely we'll be in the box seat to sign him?

If we don't we are minimising our exposure to a player with high wage demands.

I really can't see a downside to this.

I wasn't far off for a drunken bash. If I'd put Northern Monkey for Taylor reckon I had it nailed.

Being slightly serious for a second, reckon we've got two back up keepers, but still lack a true promotion chasing Number 1. Bond may come good but if you look at previous play-off/promotion campaigns we had Shaka/Marcus/Feds. The current two aren't close and that may well be our undoing.

We're also weaker at right back (Kelly's gone and we never replaced Cummings) and a lot of these signings could go either way, but there's reason for optimism for sure.

Fair point on the right backs, thats the only position we haven't signed anyone for.

He's not very good with names. It's a basic error and I'd expect Semtex to be a bit more sheepish in his response.

Winston Smith
Ian Royal
floyd__streete For those of you wetting yourselves over Piazon.....I am genuinely fascinated and impressed that you find the time in your lives to follow English and Brazilian Under 21 football so closely, never mind La Liga, Eredivisie, Bundesliga. I'd never heard of the fella tbh.

I think you might be underestimating people's ability to use the internet to find stuff out.

There is looking stuff up on the web and then there is desperately trying to look itk

'He looked amazing for Mtimba Mbomba when I used to follow the Botswanan league....'

true, but you can't really use "I've not heard of him" as any kind of indicator of a lack of quality either.

Well, not unless you are employed as a football expert on tv, apparently.

The truth is, we've signed a number of players. Some will probably be good. Some will probably be disappointing. Until we've seen them player a number of times, any speculation of how good they are is pure guesswork.
