Stadium name to be change to highest bidder

by MrSwickle » 02 Sep 2015 12:24

"Reading Football Club's Madejski Stadium is to have its name changed, its owner has confirmed.
Lady Sasima Srivikorn told BBC Radio Berkshire she is in talks with several different companies to bring more sponsorship money to the club.
It has been called the Madejski Stadium, named after co-chairman Sir John Madejski, since it opened in 1998.
Lady Sasima said selling the name was an easy way to raise income, especially as the club was "moving up".
Reading are currently 13th in the Championship but have had several recent spells in the Premier League.
"I know to have the naming right on the stadium can fetch quite a lot of money," she said.
"There are many companies that would like to have that naming right, so that is one way of making the money come in.""

Long overdue. It was only SJM's arrogance that prevented this club from making what is easy money by having a stadium sponsor. Derby's was something like £7m over 10 years. You'd probably get more now with the club pushing the brand abroad and the exposure they're giving us. Up to £1m a season is a player on 20k a week wages. It's amazing when we were struggling for money and the debts were getting out of control that SJM still wouldn't budge on this matter.

Whatever the name over the stadium, it'll only ever be 'the football ground' for me. It would also be nice to have the name of the club on the seats as well the new sponsor. The stadium still lacks an identy to the club imo.

I like the idea.

Mike Ashley bought naming rights of Ibrox Stadium for £1

I am sure we could get more than that.

Let me just clarify where you stand on the issue Coppelled_Streets - am I right in saying you've little time for those who'd argue it's crass commercialisation too far, or those who would like to see SJM's decades at the club immortalised?

Maybe we could be sponsored by British Association of Dermatologists.

Then it could be the BAD MAD STAD.

Is there a brand out there that would encourage you to attend more matches?

Is there a brand out there that would discourage you from attending in the future?

Either way, interested in your thoughts

i would be discouraged from going if it were called The Tenna Lady/man bowl, or the vagisil stadium ,

i wouldn't be encouraged to go by a brand, no. unless it was something like Samsung arena, and they gave away free phones to season ticket holders

I've always supported the idea of a joint statue of Coppell and Madejski arm in arm as they were at Leicester, with the scarf aloft. I have however never been in favour of SJM having his name over the stadium and across the seats! Many neutrals wouldn't know that stadium was the home of Reading Football Club!

In this day and age where FFP has such an influence on a club's finances (or should do...), we need to bring in as much money as possible, so sponsorship of the stadium makes perfect sence. Having said that, as with the cup competitions, I would never call the stadium by it's sponsored name, just as I have never called the Madejski Stadium the Madejski Stadium - it is simply 'the football ground, just as it is 'the FA Cup and League Cup.'

I'll be pleased to see the white seats removed and hopefully replaced with 'Reading FC' and perhaps the new sponsor behind one of the goals. Give the ground its long over-due identity to Reading Football Club.

In the event that we do expand the stadium, I would like to see the seat colours changed so that they are blue and white hoops like in the 'Raise the Hoops' display in 2006. The spare blue seats can thence be used in the newly created seating areas.

Coppell? Seriously?

144 years of history and you want a statue of a bloke who recently spent just 5 1/2 years at the club in which he oversaw us both promoted & relegated?

+1

Or if they could paint faces on the seats it will help give the stadium a sold out feel when we play the likes of Peterborough at home in the cup on a cold and wet Tuesday night.

Perhaps we could get an agreement with the Forestry Commission and call it Elm Park
