I can see both sides though

The fans want new players - the club won't "break the bank" to get just any old player....i'm sure they tried their main targets but either got turned away or turned down or put off by the fee quoted. I guess they will spend the next 5 months scouting for possible new targets in January.

Its better than panic buying like Chelsea did with Hector etc

Although that may be true, Vydra is proven in this division and has shown he can score goals and be one of the best players in the championship - Hector, at the same age, is nowhere near top-half Premier League standard, let alone Champions League/Chelsea level (he's not actually a top Championship player). Do you honestly think he will play any games for you, bar the odd League cup game?!
