PieEater Can't remember the game, but Whitehead coming for a cross, caught the ball and chucked it into the net.

ayjaydee Can't remember the game but "Chalky" White from about 35 yards would have to be #1

I'd go for that one - he was out by the touch line and chipped a ball back to Death and it bounced over his head - freezing cold day and a bone hard pitch - I think it was against Hartlepool late 1970's

Think that was Oxford at home in the pouring rain

Maguire The Whitehead error against Oxford was brilliant. Not an OG of course, but trying to stop a ball going out in the pouring rain, stopping it on the line and then sliding off the pitch whilst the Oxford player gleefully walked it into an empty net.
Best OG I can remember in our favour was one at Grimsby about 12 years ago. Guy tackled Henderson (?) and managed to lob his own keeper from absolutely miles out.

Cripple Creek Mark White's own goal was executed in one of the first games I ever saw for Reading. It was terrible to watch. Whitey, however, went on to be a superb left back and Maurice Evans said if it hadn't been for injuries he would have played at the top level for his entire career and I agree. A wonderful player and a lovely man (not that I ever met him but that is his rep).
