A BBC study into the price of football has found that Reading FC have some of the cheapest match-day and season ticket prices not only in the Championship but in the top four levels of English football.

The Price of Football, the largest study of its type in Europe, looked at costs at 227 clubs in 13 leagues and found that the cost of watching football in the UK has dropped or remained the same for the majority of fans.

But the Royals come out of the study with particular credit after it showed its £135 season ticket was the cheapest in the top four divisions in England and its £10 match-day ticket - a price shared by Derby County and Huddersfield - was the cheapest in the top five leagues in England. In comparison Hull's cheapest season ticket costs £531. In the Premier League Arsenal’s cheapest season ticket costs £1014.
The cheapest match-day ticket for the Madejski Stadium is £10 and the most expensive is £33 making Reading's prices the lowest in the Championship. Its most expensive ticket is 10 per cent below the league average.

The club's cheapest season ticket is £135 and its most expensive will set you back £445, however that price is 24 per cent lower than the league average.

A replica Royals' adult shirt is £45, two per cent above the league average, and a child's shirt costs £35, four per cent above the Championship average.

Based on last season's prices and results it cost Reading fans £15.62 for every home goal scored.

The cost of a pie and programme at Reading home games is slightly above the Championship average at £3 for a programme and £3.50 for a pie. A cup of tea at the Madejski costs £2.

£28 on the day for 90 minutes entertainment? Ok, so you might pay that much - or more - for a stand up comedian for example, but that would probably be one of the best stand ups in the country. We don't have one of the best teams in the country.

Tbf, this is not just a Reading FC issue and the club should be congratulated for maximising the potential to get youngsters interested.

Many things are stupidly expensive these days. I'm not saying £28 isn't too much for a football match, but it was £75 for a standing ticket to see Morrissey at the Eventim Apollo recently.

I've been watching Moz fairly regularly for well over 10 years now. I've got some old ticket stubs and I paid £22 for a ticket only 6 years ago. So the % increase in the cost of some music gigs has risen significantly higher than the cost of most football tickets.

Seats at Bayern are in four categories, €35, 45, €60, €70. Terracing is €15.

Terraces are basically subsidised by their other income.

Which is what we should have here.

In contrast there is little price discrepancy between terraces and seating at English clubs, and certainly nowhere near the magnitude demonstrated in Germany.

There isn't any terracing to compare prices too these days but historically it was certainly cheaper to stand than to sit. Not sure why those who chose to stand should have their tickets subsidised by those who sit.

There is, but it is limited and not directly comparable in the same tier, and obviously far more prevalent in the lower leagues. In the championship for example I'm pretty sure that Brentford's terrace is priced as the same cheapest seats, £25 iirc for a Cat A/1 game.

I went to a Cheltenham game the other week and the price of an adult ticket in the Prestbury end (terraces) was £16, the price of the cheapest seat was £20 which equates to a €7 euro difference between the two.

I think the only thing you could say is that due to attendances in the terrace certain Bundesliga clubs could somewhat subsidise prices however for lower league English teams the support isn't enough to justify a lower ticket price.

I'd imagine that if clubs in the top flight were to introduce safe standing areas of the ground then tickets would be cheaper, but it wouldn't surprise me if it wasn't by a lot.

The prices are all skewed by deals ages etc. But for a full priced adult ticket on the day or in advance it is top expensive.
Hence the fall in attendances imho
