This is quite bizarre

They are both wanted for sexual assault.

Ventura is a goalkeeper for the Botafogo-SP club in Brazil.

Toronto sex crimes Inspector Joanna Beaven-Desjardins said:

“You could say it’s frustrating. It would be good for the victim and themselves to cooperate."

WTF?

Piazon is wanted on an Ontario-wide warrant, so cannot be extradited, but will be arrested if he enters the province.

Ventura meanwhile faces a Canada-wide warrant and police said they will begin a process to bring him back to Toronto to face charges.

Canada has no extradition treaty with Brazil, Inspector Beaven-Desjardins said.

According to Beaven-Desjardins, the Crown Attorney’s Office made the decision regarding the different warrants.

Police were not able to explain the reason.

Why on earth would the warrants be different?

Had they issued a Canada-wide arrest warrant for Piazon, presumably he COULD be extradited. Seems there may be more to this than meets the eye.

I'm confused about the way this has been done.

Police identify suspect in a sexual assault.
They realise he's a pro footballer

So logically... Ring up the club, explain situation and he'd probably be there within 24 hours with lawyer to give explanation.

Why all this "warrant" business. It's hardly like its some random they can't find or who is evading them

Great!! So with HRK and Quinn out and Tish also out for the remainder of this year we are now facing the possibility of not playing Piazon too! I suppose that eases the midfield selection process somewhat!?

At least Mourinho now has his next excuse lined up, when they lose.

She may not have reported it?

The victim may have been under 16 but legally sexually active with 'close age' partners until these older guys appeared?

It's possibly a really badly worded sentence and mean that if they cooperate, it will be good for them, as well as good for the victim. Who can see justice done, get closure and move on. Maybe there's others involved and they want them to cooperate to nail the worst offender...

It is a bit weird.

Ian, last I heard Canadians could speak English, and Press Conferences are prepared

No there's something odd here, esp with the different warrants.

Sure, the heavier warrant is for a black guy, but no way would
they be that dumb.

It might be the other guy has "previous" or that maybe only he had intercourse. God knows,
but as-is this is weird.

Think Ian's right. "If they cooperate it would be good for themselves and the victim." It's just the way she said it.

The alleged victim was 21, so definitely not an age thing.

Yeah, there's never been a prepared statement that was poorly written, and certainly not from anyone who's first language is English.

Looks like we are in for a run of bad luck. First we lose Quinn, now Tishbola, Now Piazzon as surely his head won't be right for a while. What next?

People keep suggesting this and I just don't get it. I mean I like McCleary, he's a good player and worthy of a starting place in most Championship sides, but Blackman surely has the right side slot nailed down completely. We want an extra midfielder in the team, not another attacker IMO. And you're solving a midfield position with a winger, why? So you still have the gap in midfield and instead you bring in McCleary and either he has to play on the left (not his position), or you have to move Blackman to the left and risk unsettling his stupendous form. And what do you do with Vydra?

Can you explain your thinking?

If Piazon has a case to answer he'll end up getting extradited, unless he does a runner to Brazil first, or locks himself in the Ecuadorian embassy.

Whatever, the least important party in this is RFC and anyone whinging about the effect on the team needs to get a grip.

For some bizarre reason the arrest warrant for Piazon is only "Ontario wide" not Canada-wide and means he can't be extradited

Yes. Currently it's Ontario only, but I don't see why that couldn't change.

Firstly Quinn is a big loss. His ball control, passing and tackling is top drawer. He retains the ball and almost never gives it away. Tishbola is our best defensive midfielder and Piazzon is the one that can do special things with the ball. In short, 3 of our best players. It makes our side weaker. Blackman isn't a wide midfielder, he's a central attacker. What happens if Williams or Norwood get injured??
