bobby1413 Piazon is total sh*t ... I don't care if he scored today - that's a red heron. He is total cack. Get him out of the first 11 ASAP.

Sa needs to man up at times. He seemed to go down too easily once or twice

Piazon is one for the future.

Sa needs support and more importantly a decent service. Sa and Blackman doesn't work as a partnership.

Has really the loss of HRK and Quinn brought us to the truly dreadful performances we're getting from the squad currently

Really fed up and annoyed with the reappearance of crab football and total lack of tempo that the side demonstrates regularly game to game

Bolton were appalling yet we managed to make them look like promotion certainties for the first 20 minutes. We then managed to jam ourselves in front and actually woke up for the rest of the half and looked half decent

Cue the 2nd half and back to nondescript crabbing for 45 minutes punctuated only by one smart move and incredibly inept substitutions in an attempt to allow Bolton to reclaim at least a point, if not all three.

This really needs to be sorted out as this squad of talent should be delivering so much more, so much more consistently

Gunter - still not sure he's up to the standard required. What does he do
That makes him earn his spot?

McShane mixed

Jagermesiter1871 Poor substitutions from Clarke.

And the options available on the bench?

Well if any substitution was required I'd have liked to have seen Fernandez who has impressed me in the rare glimpses we've seen of him.

Why would you do that when you're 2-0 up and looking fairly comfortable?

What's the relevance of whether he makes first team or not? As nor would any of RFC's current squad either.

At 22 though he'll only get better. Compared to Blackman who is 26. Who appears to have hit a ceiling.

No reason why being 22 will ensure he gets any better. That's down to ability and attitude. It's hard to see him turning into a top player, by 22 he's a grown up not a youth player.
As for Blackman, his delinking is way above where Piazzon is , if he stays at this level for a couple of seasons he'll do ok. Are you dismissing Messi on the basis that he 'hit a celiling' about 10 years ago and has failed to kick on ?

^This.
Didn't work for Adkins. Didn't work for McD when Guthrie played. Yep, three points, but if anybody believes that this team is Premier or promotion material they must be deluded.

Ian Herring Piazon - looked like Shane Long might appear in the latter stages of bone cancer...

Don't give a shit what happens to Clarke. In football terms he's made a mistake and upset the wrong people, probably, reading the thin runes emanating from the club.

Ian Herring One of my infrequent visits to the Loyalty Dome this season.

I have come to the conclusion that I don't really care in the least who is our manager.

What I care about is the success of the team, and the club.

In the years I have followed the Rz I have felt warm feelings for: Infoot, McGhee, Jim and Mick, Coppell and Brian.

I have felt indifference towards: Porterfield, Burns.

Pity for: Terry the Taxi.

A shame-faced kind of lust and hatred towards Pards (the provocative, M25-voweled and consonanted (not a word) cunter).

Converse comedy hatred for McGhee (previously mentioned in a warmer vein).

No feelings or recognition at all of the perm-tanned Adkins during his non-entity rein at Smallmead.

A kind of unregulated sub-stomach churn of the kind you experience walking through any major city in summer months when the sewage system starts chucking up and wafting drift-turn backwash stench back up through the drains (Whitley Whiffs ad infinitum) when thinking of Steve Clarke - mixed with any of the varieties of non-feeling/indifference/lack of recognition itemised above. (What's he ever actually done? Answer, apart from one short rhubarb patch at Reading this season - fuck all.)

Today in the first 15 minutes Bolton could have been three up.

Great performance by the increasingly less-shaky Al-Habsi.

Gunter - weak, ineffective. (And there are times when I really like this bloke when he is on his game - but it seems he appears feeble in his approach at times, sadly).

McCleary - great control on and receiving the ball - looked calm and full of authority at times.

Williams - fairly sleek.

Hector - flaky, slightly up the self.

Taylor - Watery.

McShane - equally uterine.

Norwood - Okay.

Piazon - looked like Shane Long might appear in the latter stages of bone cancer - too delicate to touch but as easy to remove from his about-to-be-vacated space as a butterfly in the latter stages of being erased by nuclear fission.

Blackman - despite the pink boots, still quite alive (in the gay, tatted arm way that modern footballers have) on the back of ripples of near-recent form.

Sa - Acceptable, for 80-90% of the game.

Bolton: looked like Salford FC - a bit northern gobshite with some organisation and grit and bite - standard Northern tripe or pre-baked pie pastry. Stodge.

Good to see the 16 go off late-doors after his exaggerated writhing in the first half that got us an early booking. Twat.

Don't give a shit what happens to Clarke. In football terms he's made a mistake and upset the wrong people, probably, reading the thin runes emanating from the club.

Conversely it may have the obverse affect that he has to pull a run of form rabbit out of the hat that will see Reading probe more directly for promotion this season.

Strange, subdued and wishful days.

Never one to really contribute to BFTG's or Hob nob in general but feel the need to add my views.

Before I start, I am one of those who has advocated that for the club to progress we need to move on from the "Reading way" however people perceive that way to be.
In my view that meant keeping things low key, within our financial means and try and look for those bargains that in the past we were able to unearth. 2005//2006 was a magical period that due to the ever increasing financial pressures to reach the promised land will probably never be repeated.

This brings me up to date and the takeover by the Thai's and the appointment of Steve Clarke. Here we go, I thought, investment and a manager to take us to the next level.

Well Thursday's and Friday's antics by the dour Scot has really pegged me back and I feel he alone is to blame for yesterdays performance. Luckily it was hapless Bolton we were up against because we could have been torn apart by many other teams in the league. The crowd were tense and this obviously affected the players.

Thank god for Al Habsi in the first 20 mins or I would of have had to return to the warmth of the Hotel for a new prescription for my Beer goggles. Only other players who came out of the game with any credit were Williams, Blackman and GMac. Norwood gave away too many fouls, not like him, and obviously the penalty. Gunter did link up well with GMac as the 2 have done for years, maybe Clarke needs reminding of that? As for Piazon, so lightweight and gives the ball away far too often, did track back in a half hearted manner a couple of times. Lucky goal for him but quite a tasty missus when he met up with his entourage in the Hotel after the game. Sa seemed out of sorts and agree with others that he needs to stay on his feet more. Nothing to add about substitutions that hasn't already been said either!

Well that's my rare contribution and I will now retreat to a safe distance in preparation for any flack coming my way!

Apropos nothing at all really, I am currently trawling through seasons 1998-2002 trying to update the db for assists and which end we attack in which half - and two things strike me:

a) nothing much really changes in football - the comments on matches today bear a remarkable resemblance to those of 15 years ago. Obviously the players and managers change, but the general invectives/praise, from a match 15 years ago could easily refer to games today.

b) forgotten just how good the 2001/02 team was. The run of 7 consecutive wins without even conceding a goal was special. Our GF/GA was 14-0, so averaging a 2-0 home and away for 7 games. Even the 2005/06 legends couldn't match that (appreciate a division higher of course).

Looking back, we were a bit spoilt in the Noughties generally! Just saying.
