Mr Optimist Cardiff City stadium is us in a sliding doors moment of what might have happened. They gambled on being able to stay in the premier long term and built before doing so. Some would say showing ambition and putting their money where their mouth is, others would say ill judged with the benefit of hindsight.
They now have a shiny new unused upper tier , we would have had the same. Still don't think it would be a bad idea to increase capacity to 30,000 if we could ever manage to have an extended top flight stay, that would be about the right level.

Wales play there though - so some internationals might warrant the extra capacity.

Cardiff was always due to get expanded because they were due to host the UEFA Super Cup final last season.
Maybe a better example would be Brighton who have delivered an impressive 30,000+ capacity stadium ready for the Premier League and one of the best training grounds in the country.

I hear what you are saying about the timing of the expansion for UEFA super cup final but imagine that one off occasion wouldn't have been the main driver for increasing the capacity. That would have been Cardiff remaining in the premier league surely.

ZacNaloen The presence of a train station is key the transportation plan so I imagine this does put a dent in the plans.
That said, you could delay the housing portion and move the car park back there for the foreseeable.

Stuka Shirley they'll have to vastly improve the level of support before even thinking about expanding it?
