melonhead the premiere league is a bit different. many decent managers have failed to keep a team up.

when you lose a game and don't play well its always going to be dull and annoying to the fans, but to say mcdermotts tenure here was domin8ed by uninspiring fooball is daft.

we had some great games, & played pretty fast paced attacking football for much of his time here.

this disasterous attempt to try changing the ethos of the club towards the fad of continental style passing/possession football is what has ruined the last few years.

ill take winning football any day.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't much of that "attacking football" us soaking up pressure and nicking a goal on fast breaks and then sitting back? That's how I remember it at least...

counter attacking still has attacking in the title, which i think is a clue.

ill take wing based counter attack over turgid pointless passing any day of the week.
brains winning brand of football is more entertaining than anything that has followed. for me.

URZZZZZ Very very poor appointment, lack of ambition, boring style of football, cheep option.

Mc donut is unable to attract decent players such as Quinn , vydra or mcshane

He doesn't need to, we've already got them

Mr Optimist Brian's recent scouting sabbatical might work in our favour too in terms of some new faces in January.

If he can get Arsenal to sign them and then push them straight out to us on loan that'll key the finances happy too.

Yay more loans

I reckon we'll see a couple go back (Piazon, Hector) and sign Taylor and hopefully Fernandez. That'll free up some loan space.

I like Brian, so in that sense I’m new too despondent at his appointment; he did after all secure us promotion.

But one of the things that characterised his teams was lack of play in the space between midfield and attack; when we weren’t able to break at pace we were a very flat and predictable side. Adkins changed this a bit, and under Clarke we have at times played beautifully ‘between the lines’ (noting that in the likes of Vydra and a rejuvenated Norwood and Blackman we now have the players to do that). As noted, bar the emergence of Sig, Brian’s teams aren’t about really about the sort of player that now fills our squad, that kind of hybrid midfielder/forward type. Maybe he’s picked some stuff up over the last three years. I hope so.

People also seem to miss the point that Brian may still develop as a manager. Lessons learned, a new team with new players at his disposal plus new owners and better more sustainable investment.

Just cos he's back doesn't mean we just pick up from where he left off - everything has changed.

And I'd still take a decent, long-term manager who is committed to Reading over a fantastic but short-term manager to whom Reading means nothing.

And Brian has a plan for them all.

McShane - launch 50 yard balls into the channels
Quinn - look skyward as 50 yard balls sail over his head
Vydra - jump pointlessly as incoming missiles are headed clear by central defenders who are 8 inches taller than him

He would have, had he been given the money like Clarke was.
