Where would have been plenty of young players scouted by BM for Arsenal.

I would, but FM is a PC game.

You mean there's no in-game editor function in real life?

Yeah now you mention it, what did he ever do for us?

I can understand not everyone wanting him to return but some of the lack of respect towards him is breathtaking.

I assume you are joking rather than just being a twat. But for the record - one play off, one promotion and two FA Cup QF's in 3 seasons. Pretty great record really.

tonyrfc Take off the 15 wins from 17, 2 Q/Fs, a play off final and championship winners and into the premier league clearly he's nothing special

Yeah, you have a point.

And saving us from the strong threat of relegation 1st season. Took over in December when we were 21st and we finished 9th.

Don't like the bloke but think we need a strong manager like Pearce to put a boot up the backside of some of our players - sounds like they were awful today

Nigel Howe issues an update on the hard work going on behind the scenes

Following a narrow defeat on a bitterly cold afternoon at Preston, Chief Executive Nigel Howe spoke to the official website from Deepdale on the hard work that is being conducted to appoint a new manager as swiftly as possible at Reading Football Club.

“Appointing a new manager is a process which naturally takes time, but rest assured it is also a process the shareholders and I want to complete as quickly as we can,” he said.

“We are all working very hard behind the scenes to get a permanent manager appointed, but we have to make sure we get the right man. And that means we have to ensure the right decisions are made for the good of the football club.

“I have been in constant communication with the shareholders and Nick Hammond over the last week and we will continue to keep having those discussions throughout the course of the weekend.

“We know the fans are impatient and rightly so. This club needs a new permanent manager in place as soon as possible and so do we. We are all working diligently to make that happen.

Hopefully, the club will be in a position to move forward with a new manager in the next few days. But as I mentioned, we have to be sure we get the right man for the job.”

Howe was about to head back to Berkshire after watching interim manager Martin Kuhl lead the side at Deepdale this afternoon and he was full of praise for Kuhl and his squad of players.

“We played some good attacking football and we had our chances to score - and yet a penalty has decided it. Earlier in the season, those chances would have been converted, but I think it’s clear to see for all the fans who were in Preston today that we’re just not getting the rub of the green right now.

“Martin Kuhl has been fantastic. He had no issues with taking charge of first team matters from the moment I asked him to look after training, and he has just got on with the task in hand as required.

“He has had a really positive impact on the training pitch and the players themselves have been working tirelessly to try to put an end to this disappointing run of results. I’d like to thank them for all their efforts this week.”

And finally, Howe paid tribute to those 506 supporters who made the long journey to Lancashire to support the team through a difficult spell.

“On behalf of the club, I have to say a personal thank you to all the fans who drove through torrential rain all morning to get behind the team here today. And they certainly got behind the team – singing from start to finish! I’m sure the players appreciated it and I wish them all a safe journey home.”
