Pepe the Horseman
genome "substantial fee"

Gotta be upwards of £10m I reckon.

I was thinking more along the lines of £30m. With add ons, of course, let's not be shafted here

howser I look forward to the next 48 hours when we name our new striker, as we wouldn't have let Blackman go if we didn't have a replacement ready to come in, after all that would be pretty stupid wouldn't it ???

Like sacking a manager with no replacement lined up, oh wait ...

Like having a replacement manager lined up but not then being able to get things sorted straight away, oh wait.......

Like appointing an Assistant Manager who is announced as the best thing since sliced bread but then suddenly and completely unexpectedly departs after just three games, oh wait......

WoodleyRoyal confirmed http://www.readingfc.co.uk/news/article ... 86562.aspx

This deal will also allow us the chance to potentially re-invest in the first team this month, helping the manager to bolster his squad should the right opportunities arise during the transfer window.”

I think should the right opportunities arise also qualifies to be in large bold given our traditional end of January transfer window excuses.

Interesting wording within that statement.

Pretty much emphasising that he's been pretty shit apart from his two month purple patch and that the club had given him a great platform to progress on.

Also interesting that they basically gave up on trying to get him to sign a new contract and so didn't want to lose him for nothing.

well played RFC.

Maguire

Let's face it, start of the season everyone on this board would have snatched Derby's hand off if they'd offered that money for him.

Well yeah. He wasn't our top goal scorer and didn't look like a 3m player at the start of the season

Completely honest opinion on this: Selling our top scorer doesn't look great, and I can see where the lack of ambition claims are coming from, but I was sick and tired of his arrogant celebrations, moody persona, and general unwillingness to acknowledge the supporters. He had a massive ego. I won't deny I celebrated his goals just as much as anyone else, and agree that 3 or more of them were of the highest quality, but he couldn't accept that as a footballer, you get stick when not playing well, and always held this against us. I'll miss his goals but certainly not him, and his big time charlie attitude, which was proven in not signing a new contract. Jog on

Howe: we might replace our top scorer

We'd be 20th without his goals+assists, so I hope he is getting replaced

Fantastic news to get anything that can be described as 'substantial' for a player out of contract and who virtually all fans would have taken 50p for at the start of the season. So he'll probably score against us next week and that would be a price worth paying too.

Could easily bang on about charley big boll**ks, etc etc etc but instead, Brian can now think about building a team, rather than building a NB ego support structure..

I believe the vernacular is: we move on.
