Can someone by ' most unsung' ? Isn't it 'least sung' ?

Anyway I'd go for Kevin Bremner, Peter Beardsley to Trevor Senior's Lineker. Bremner did all the work and Senior got the glory.
Gary Peters would be another suggestion. As well as playing in any position for us he also played rugby at a decent level and then ran the pub nearest my school....

Ricky Newman.

Maybe not the most unsung, but a versatile player who was always good when we were legally rubbish.

Actually, I just thought it would be fun to remind you all of Ricky, just in case he'd slipped your minds.

sandman Nicky Forster.

Cureton got all the credit whilst Forster got on with being the best player in the team despite many fans begging for the one trick pony to start in his place.

No idea why my original reply has been deleted, but anyway here's the stuff to show Cureton wasn't a one-trick pony - well at least compared to Nicky Forster. (BTW I rate both very highly).

Should add I haven't counted added times to games. Am starting to add this to matches though.

Against my better judgement of starting more 'highbrow interaction' with you 'mighty sandman', Nicky Forster........unsung hero?? Surely an example of your legendary cutting wit there????

Bowman, Newman, Hughes, Harper, Richardson, McIntyre, Bryn all good shouts for me.....and to that I would also add Tom Jones & Steve Francis.

So, more highbrow interaction it is then......
Someone being an unsung hero would indicate they just quietly go about their business & whilst their contribution isn't particularly high profile or recognised, it's still an extremely important & vital one.
As good a player as Forster was, that hardly describes his time at Reading FC, where as it does sum up many of the other players folk have mentioned pretty well.
Oh sorry, the clown is continuing to disagree with you.

Calling Curo a one trick pony seems harsh.
Unless you think the same applies to Marcus, Ivar or Glenn Little.
Fozzy hardly had more to his game than Curo, although good to see Curo still knocking in the goals despite being into his forties.

There seems to be a lot of just remembering people rather than identifying unsung heroes on here. Either that or people are struggling with the definition.
Richie Bowman was here for around 5 seasons and won player of the year twice. Steve Death and Mick Gooding won it three times.
I think that pretty much counts as sung.
The correct answer is,as always, Jack Whitham. . 3 goals against Hartlepool and nothing else ever. Not many players can match that.

Good post Larry, that you spoil with your last sentence. You can't have a hero who only had one decent game.
I reckon it is harder these days to find anyone half - decent who is unsung, as there is so much instant media, such as HNA.
My vote goes to John Hulme (RIP). I can't remember if he ever won player of the year but he tended to be taken for granted as he was quietly reliable.
Honourable mention to Tommy Youlden when he was a centre back, which was most of the time. He was tried at left back for a while and that was not a success. Also to Dennis Butler.
