How the hell do you build a stable squad for the future when you keep signing people at the absolute twilight of their careers who are unlikely to last for more than a year before they are past it or crocked? Roberts was great for us but once he got crocked and we had no one to really take over it was a major contributory factor to our slide.

WoodleyRoyal
Ian Royal In what way could it be a Jason Roberts sort of signing?

Roberts was a player with a pedigree of scoring goals where ever he went and was vastly experienced at the highest level of English football. Kermorgant has had a two or three good seasons in the Championship, has never done anything at PL level and at 34 you think he can step back down to the Championship and pick up where he left off in a new team?

Unless you mean we'll pay him for two and a half years whilst getting six months of actual service and a handful of goals. In which case, yay. Not.

So Brian is quoted in the getreading article comparing him to the Jason Roberts signing... Ian royaLOL making a oxf*rd of himself since 2004

Well he's also wrong on this occasion then, seeing as their career is nothing similar, he won't provide anything like the same level of higher level experience, he's only stepping down a level in the most technical of terms, and he's not going to be the catalyst to win us the league. Not keen on the signing, I'd rather give players like Liburd, Samuel, Cardwell and Novakovich a chance, but he probably won't be a) as injury ruined as Roberts, b) as costly. And he may score a few goals, though I have my doubts.

Also, what Get Reading article and what's the comparison, seeing as I'm taking it entirely on faith from you he's made any. Which seems quite stupid of me.

I imagine he'll cost at least £1m. At 34.

That's £3.5m spent on strikers this season who won't be on the balance sheet in 18 months. Good to see some long term planning.

My mate is a season ticket holder at Bomo. Says he's not good enough for prem and looks out of condition. Says he's not that good but might do a job for us. If Macd doesn't want any more loans then just hope we don't pay too much for him

Decent signing. Keep him off penalties though.

An experienced striker who can hit the ground running. Exactly the sort of signing we need right now.

It's quite possible to plan long, short and medium term at the same time and without compromising either.
I'd agree Samuels is worth a run in the side but he may not click straightaway and he does have a record of injury. So signing short term, experienced cover whilst also blooding youngsters makes sense.
If we go with Samuel and his does his knee again on Feb 1st guess who will be first to slate the club for not having brought in an extra striker....

Royal_jimmy Decent enough record but he isn't getting any younger.

'greed, we should definitely only sign players who've successfully managed to reverse the aging process

Given McD's track record with Jason Roberts and Ian Harte, I'm inclined to trust him.

Why not Glenn Murray, surely not going to get a look in now. and 2 years the younger of Kermogant.
