If you take out the 1.5 seasons he had in a very attacking Bournemouth side his record isn't great. Not saying it won't work, Roberts worked out quite well initially, but I'd be disappointed if we spent what little money we have on a 34 yr old who's barely kicked a competitive football in over 6months.

42 goals in 127 championship games when he was younger than 34 - not the best record.

Bournemouth have struggled big time with strikers this season. Despite that Kermogant wasn't really used. Says it all really.

For every Jason Roberts there is a Les Ferdinand.
As an earlier poster said, this player scored quite a lot of goals but in a very attacking and successful side.
It may or may not work out but as a general rule I don't like signing players over 30-with them the only way is down (injuries taking longer to get over, lack of pace etc.)

This would be a signing just to keep us ticking over in what I referred to underanother topic as a write-off season.
A statement of intent and an attempt to build a side would be a Washington, Bradshaw, Judge type of signing but I get the feeling we will mainly "go with what we have got" and once again in the summer will (hopefully) have another big shake-up with the likes of Kanu and Gunter moving on and the loan players going back to where they came from.

Equates to around 15 goals per season, I would say that's a decent record. I think he got about 10 assists last season as well.

Is the correct answer.

Charles Watts said it would be on an 18 month deal as well which is absolute no no for me. I'd take him till the end of the season at a push.

He's only scored more than 15 goals in one championship season. And that was when he was younger, and playing regularly.

He also scored 14 Championship goals the previous season.

29 goals in his previous 2 seasons so I just don't get the argument of him being 'younger' when it happened. 1 or 2 years younger is a lot better than say 5 or 6 years younger.

As opposed to 18 goals in 103 games that our current "top scorer" has

So we lose (I understand why and it had to happen and yes we got a deal so that's fine) a young hungry in form striker and get £2-4million for him. Only to replace him with an old striker who at best might produce a short term Robertsesque transformation for this season (maybe next at a big push), if he stays fit.

Would much rather a younger exciting inform perhaps lower league player who will last 3 years minimum.

Doesn't fill me with much excitement. We'll have to go shopping again in the PL if by some miracle we get there.
