42 goals in 127 championship games when he was younger than 34 - not the best record.

Froomes If you take out the 1.5 seasons he had in a very attacking Bournemouth side his record isn't great. Not saying it won't work, Roberts worked out quite well initially, but I'd be disappointed if we spent what little money we have on a 34 yr old who's barely kicked a competitive football in over 6months.

Equates to around 15 goals per season, I would say that's a decent record. I think he got about 10 assists last season as well.

He's only scored more than 15 goals in one championship season. And that was when he was younger, and playing regularly.

What about last season when he scored 15?

2 world wars, 1 world cup So we lose (I understand why and it had to happen and yes we got a deal so that's fine) a young hungry in form striker and get £2-4million for him. Only to replace him with an old striker who at best might produce a short term Robertsesque transformation for this season (maybe next at a big push), if he stays fit.Would much rather a younger exciting inform perhaps lower league player who will last 3 years minimum.
Doesn't fill me with much excitement. We'll have to go shopping again in the PL if by some miracle we get there.
