How can anyone judge Evans on one initial appearance? Given time, I believe that he has the potential to develop into a really good player for Reading. Patience is a virtue...

Snowball136 With Evans being SO similar to Norwood, is there a chance we might be losing Norwood?

If we do play both, how exactly, can you play two QB's left and right with Williams AM and three up?

It's hard to see them both playing unless one gets a new role

I think he's a step towards Tish from Norwood. Sometimes you have to take an opportunity when a quality player becomes available. I think we can safely assume Fernandez isn't hanging around, so that's one less to compete with. I don't really see him competing for a place with Williams. We don't really know where McDermott stands on Quinn or Tish yet. Kuhl hasn't kicked on as we'd hoped.

So, assuming we don't lose any perm midfielders in the summer we're looking at:
Norwood / Evans
Williams / Quinn / Tish
Kuhl out on another loan maybe (time on his side still).

And if we do lose both Norwood and Williams, then I'd be quite happy with a midfield of Evans & Quinn / Tish. Obviously we'd be light on back up, but we could sign more players.

He had 66 touches in 45 minutes, Norwood averaged 60 per 45

PieEater I really wasn't impressed, he didn't show anything for me that would put him ahead of Tish or Quinn, assuming Williams and Norwood are first choice.

let's get this right, because you've said this on a couple of threads. You're writing Evans off after ONE game?

Manchester City were happy enough to develop him from the age of six through to 21, presumably because they saw some potential in him.

Mongtards on HNA give him half a game before writing him off

Probably isn't good looking enough for them, no good for next seasons batty boy calender.

I don't really see the relevance. Also, your stats (as is so often the case) are wrong. He didn't go off at HT, Piazon did. Evans got 64 minutes.

Correction - after 68.42% of a game (including the 5 minutes added on time).

How can you judge him after one game?

I thought he started fairly poorly with passes going astray, but so did the whole team. Once he settled into the game he looked very good, he was playing some nice cross-field passes. Although McD made the right sub to take him off and go for the game more.

Oops, even so he had more than a touch per minute, = c.99 in 95 minutes which clearly shows he was an active part of the game

Williams had 69 touches in the whole 95 minutes

No.

I've just said that we have better options at the moment. When he gets another chance he needs to show he's better than the alternatives. That's not writing him off, if I were I'd say I'd he was useless and I never want to see him play for us again.

Sorry but the last thing we needed was another midfielder especially one so young that will probably
effect the other players of a similar age in the squad who are not getting 1st Team experience what impression
does it give to other academy boys. The lad was playing in League 1 not so long ago (Samuel playing in League 1 with Top of the League Team and cant get in the Reading 1st Team). Not even heard of him prior to us being interested in him.

mambo3 Samuel playing in League 1 with Top of the League Team and cant get in the Reading 1st Team

That's probably because he's on loan in League 1 at a top of the league team

Is 1st really massively better than 3rd at this point?

People wrote off Matt Upson and indeed Leigertwood after one game. Lad just needs a bit of time.

Yeah. Thought he did alright. Much prefer this type of signing to Kermorgant - at least there is something to build with and develop. Match time this season invested in players who can repay it in the next, rather than temporary chaps who could bag us some consolation wins at best.

Tbf to Upson on his debut he was up against a great striker.
