What wide players are these then? Only get a few minutes each week if they're lucky.

howser I think it was Howe that said McDermott was the outstanding candidate for the job, jeez there must have been some right dross that applied for it if thats the case ............

Yes all the masturbating on here when messiah Brian came back..still feel the same lads?

Yeah, still pretty glad he's back. Have felt better about pretty much every game since his return. This has been a low point, but football teams lose games sometimes. Still think we'll finish 12-15th which is an improvement on last year.

Yeah, disappointed it hasn't gone better, but still think we were doing worse under Clarke and there wasn't a better option.

Where were we when he took over ?

In utter freefall.

Since he's been in charge we'd stabilised at about 11th - 14th, we've dipped a bit again after tonight.

Just seen the goals on SSN. Where the oxf*rd was Gunter for the second? He wasn't even in the picture? He's supposed to be a right BACK. That's just poor decision making to be caught so far out of position in the 89th minute. And he didn't stop their first either - it was his man FFS and he doesn't make the tackle

Think we got 6 points from 10 before Brian took over so 8 points from 8 represents an improvement, even if not as much as we'd have liked. I'm confident we'll improve on this points tally from the next 8 games.

How can you blame Gunter for the 2nd? :|

Williams was there covering - it's whoever didn't bother marking Pitman that is to blame

As I always said with Clarke when he took over, it's not his squad, his job right now is to take us to the end of the season and we can properly rebuild in the summer.

This.
I dont know how people can blame Brian for this. Its not his team and hes picked up a right mess of a squad.

Come off it, he is meant to be a sodding manager and coach. He has been at the club some time now so can't even pull the 'I haven't had any coaching time with the players excuse'.

The squad wasn't that bad when he took over, in fact it was pretty damn good compared to some others in our division. Numerous other managers take over teams/squads in as bad or worse situations and like him don't have the luxury of having their 'own teams'. Many do far better in that situation. McDermott is displaying the same form and faults (and apparent lack of ability to do anything about it) that he did in his last few months in charge the first time around. Once again his mantra appears to be 'togetherness' but that togetherness alone will not be enough as is being shown.

John Madejski's Wallet
Ascotexgunner
We make so many individual errors and poor choices that can't be the fault of 3 successive managers (admittedly Adkins and Clarke monumentally underperformed with theirs). Just look at McCleary again today, waiting too long and screwing up a 2v1 that any other team would have put away

We could do with a clear out of some of these players (HRK, McCleary etc)

Our wingers/wide players are so disappointing.

Exactly.

You can't lay too much blame on a manager for wingers consistently putting in lame crosses and/or failing to clear the first man. That's just plain rubbish[/quote]

They coach and pick themselves do they? Meantime John is sat on the bench.

There wasn't a better option than McDermott? Says who?

Seem to remember Coppell is keen to get back in a management role for starters and there is a long list of other, potentially stronger, candidates out there. But McDermott was chosen because he's a nice man, loves the club, is loyal, relatively cheap (in salary and demands) Madejski likes him and he will do what he is told, without rocking the boat.

So, under Clarke we averaged 1.42ppg this season. That goes down to 1.2 in his last ten games, and 0.83 in his last six games. Under McDermott we've got eight points from eight games; A decent return but difficult to say he's completely halted that freefall just yet. Also below us Blackburn have two games in hand, and Fulham and MK Dons have one.

I see similarities between McDermott's appointment and Clarke's.

Clarke came in and inherited an Adkins' underperforming squad - we expected him to improve but didn't really (bar FA Cup)

McDermott came in and inherited Clarke's underperforming squad - we expected him to improve but it didn't (so far/bar FA Cup).

Thing is - will Brian get the money/signings he wants in the summer?

Well, if you'd been watching you'd know where he was as it was him at the start of the build up who was in the attacking half. Hard to be in 2 places at once? Hardly out of position as we were pressing for a winner. It is up to his team mates to cover when he goes upfield, surely?

Pretty sure he was taking a throw down the right hand side and we were undone by one ball down the line. He can't run at 100mph ffs.

Someone should have covered and Cooper should have also marked Pitman.

Time for the captain to come back into the side.

It looked like Cooper was massively at fault for not cutting out the cross. It seemed easy enough, admittedly from a TV view.
