I thought when you got a transfer embargo under FFP you just weren't allowed to pay a fee for anyone?

read yesterday how the Jackson Martinez transfer has been reported widely in China in business news but not sporting news. It's basically been celebrated as one of the richest people doing a favour to another of the richest as their businesses have been speculated to be soon working together and this was kind of one saying thank you to the other one (one owns the buying club, the other is co owner of Porto)

Vision I think the transfer embargo under FFP penalties (if that's what we're referring to) doesn't stop the club signing anyone. They just basically have to sell/release someone on a higher wage before they can bring in a replacement so having just sold Joe Mason it frees up a loan spot.

That's a rather crude way of putting it and it's a bit more complex than that I'm sure but that would be why FFP embargoed clubs can still bring in new players to the club.

It also depends on how many players you have already. You are allowed 24 first team players and can fill that quota even if you are under an embargo.
You can't pay transfer fees or loan fees at all.
If you have 24 first team players it's one in, one out but the one coming in must be on much lower wages/costs than the one going out.
Suspect that Tan will be paying his new guy partly in Belgium and partly in Cardiff to get round the rules...

Football Leaks has the contract up that De Gea had agreed with RM before the transfer fell through.

€11.8M a year plus a bonus scheme (€226,923 a week)
€10.9M signing on fee ( :o )

Signing on fees are mental. I worked with someone whose best mate was a Chelsea academy product, his career had amounted to little more so far than two or three loan moves to the football league, but each of those deals saw him net £20-30k, just for signing those loan contracts.

It might in the long term, perversely, be a bit of a saving grace for English football.

The older I get and the deeper into working life I get, the more I find footballers wages sickening.

Seems an obvious thing to say but when I was a bit younger it never bothered me and I never really contemplated it. Now, I have to save up hard just to buy a new fcking hoover and get the car MOT'd.

I'm not sure if it's more or less aggravating watching average Championship players waltz around on £15-20k a week or so-called "stars" on £100k+ a week.

As Dirk Gently late of this parish would no doubt tell you, when you were younger, the footballers wage would have been only a few times higher than yours. OK, the top players were rich, but a Championship clogger would be earning not much more than many in the crowd. I think that kept them somewhat more grounded.

Probably said this many times on here before but my Grandad stayed in the army after WWII instead of trying to continue his career as a professional footballer because it paid more. Although I'm sure most of the decision was because my dad had arrived and they needed a bit of security and trying to restart a career that had never got going because of the war wouldn't have been easy/possible.
