Nameless If the ratings generate comment take it as interest rather than criticism ! Just trying to get a better understanding of how they did, and I tend to take more notice of the comments than the numbers as from past experience no one uses the number ratings in the same way whereas words tend to give a clearer idea of what happened.
Were you in Manchester anyway ? You surely didn't go all that way just for the game ?

Fair enough. I normally only highlight one or two things that were notable rather than say both positives/negatives. For example I didn't say Kuhl linked up play well and constantly looked to play in other players... Etc etc. Probably lazy I know.

Yeah was in Manchester seeing the gf. Tickets were free which was nice but annoyingly they play miles away from Manchester (like us and Wycombe), in Leigh. Took me best part of an hour to drive 15 odd miles because of the rush hour traffic!

don't see much of the U21 getting a smell of 1st Team action next season except Tishbola, Liburd, Samuel, Keown, Stacy, Cooper.

Kuhl, Tanner, Fosu, Novo - Loans at best

That's a bizarre list.
What does it represent ?

6 players getting first team action would be pretty impressive, don't think there would be many teams in the Championship utilising that many of their U21 players.

CountryRoyal Watson (?) 6- First I've heard of him I'm embarrassed to say but he looked good, pretty lightweight though, positionally a bit off from time to time and the goal came from his side.

Seem to remember him playing in the youth cup side against Fulham. Strange that not much has been said about him compared to others from that side (Kuhl, Stacey, Fosu, Dickie & Cardwell).

Three things:

1) Full-backs aren't very glamourous so don't usually get much attention.
2) He was a year younger than most of that side (except Cardwell and Ward) so he doesn't have as much experience at U21 level, particularly with lots of players in his position.
3) He has had significant trouble with injury over the last year.

He did look promising in that U18 side, not so good in some friendly matches since. Hopefully he gets more game time in the future and we can see if he's living up to his early promise. If not, then Dan Akinwumni's looking promising.

Just turned that on, we're down to 10 apparently, who was sent off and what did he do?

Crap under-hit pass back from Long, Griffin was the last man, 6th minute, can't really argue with it.

Southampton have NO fit U21 defenders, so the whole back 4 is U18s except for the left back who is 15. We're still well on top. The likes of Fosu, Kuhl and Liburd are just too strong. I can't see that they're getting much from playing in this game.

Kuhl looking a bit heavy?

Have been playing catch-up during first half dipping in and out of the coverage. Who's playing centre-back alongside Jules?

Looks like Conor Shaughnessy is filling in there. I've just started watching, looks like 4-3-2 with Kuhl alone in central midfield.

Moore; Watson, Shaughnessy, Jules, Long; Stacey, Kuhl, Fosu; Liburd, Cardwell

Moore fumbled a shot and Southampton are 1-0 up.

Just showed a replay of the sending off and that's never DOGSO, it was only just outside the centre circle ffs.

Referees at youth level seem really weak on DOGSO generally.

Liburd off for Rinomhota (not Fridjonsson as the commentators said - easy mistake to make!).

I can see the argument against it but I thought it was a fair red. The Saints player was at full gallop and would have been one on one. No-one was getting anywhere near him. Griffin made no attempt at the ball either.

 I noticed that too. Fridjonsson couldn't look much more Icelandic.

Put the name to the face:

Noor Husin
Sammi Kari Friðjónsson
Andy Rinomhota

Kuhl's having a bad game (from what I've seen), but he just hit the post with a great shot.
