Condolences to the family of the elderly lady

by Victor Meldrew » 15 Feb 2016 21:01

On Saturday when leaving Y21 we saw flowers left on the seat where an elderly lady has sat regularly for some years.
A couple of seasons ago she was highlighted as having been attending RFC games for 50 years.
My mate and I immediately thought of her as a newbie-only 50 years!!
In fairness she only started coming to games when in her 40s so she must have been well into her 90s.
Condolences to her family should any of them ever come on here-it was the first time I have ever seen flowers left like that as I suppose it would never have happened in the days of terracing.

Strange isn't it that we see people every week for years who sit close by but we know nothing about each other-a bit like being on here I suppose.

I hear that. Bloke who sits in front of me died about a month ago. He was there all the time but i'd never communicated with him beyond a nod of recognition. He clearly knew the family who sit along the row as when they turned up and found out they were distraught. Didn't really know how to react to it all.

Sad stuff. RIP to them both.

Stories like this are sad. 50 years is such a long time. To think that almost everyone that attends games now is a newbie to her. The things she's seen that we haven't and yet her passing goes almost unnoticed. That's life I guess.

That's a lovely touch.

Disagree with that for many of the AE crowd.
