Why do all the media keep referring to her as a "child" - yes she was 15 but they're wording it like he's nonced an 8 year old

She was only a few weeks past her 15th birthday as well wasn't she?

Legally she's a child, and morally too when being compared to 27 year old or whatever he is.

I'm not saying what he did was right, btw - just that at 14/15 she knew what she was doing....yet the papers are making out that he's groomed some innocent "child" that knows nothing about sex etc

I find myself slightly siding with TBM on this one, the whole child category is too broad, I think the age of consent is fine where it is but I don't necessarily agree that everyone below that line is classified as a child, we even solely use the word paedophile when there are established words for sexual interest in different age groups, there is:

Paedophilia - children
Hebephilia - pre-pubescent to young teenagers, roughly 11-14
Ephebophilia - mid to late teens, roughly 15-19

I do think an adult who would seek to have sex with someone who is below the age of consent is wrong but I don't think he deserves to be known as a guy who has sex with children, if you told me someone had sex with a 15 year old, or someone had sex with a child, I'd certainly be more disgusted by the later as it implies someone who hasn't reached sexual maturity.

Also I don't know if the law specifies that the punishment is more severe if the victim is younger but it should in my opinion.

As for Johnson, it's bad enough that he targeted the 15 year old but it is the grooming he did that increases the severity of his actions. Hopefully he gets a sentence worthy of his crimes but being a high profile footballer, I doubt it.

Law differentiates strongly between those who are under thirteen and those who are simply under sixteen. Age is always a factor in sentencing.

If you've got a problem I suggest you start a campaign in parliament and lobby MPs that "it's not really a child". I'm sure you'll get lots of publicity.

But how come in Austria, Germany and Italy the age of consent is 14 and France is 15? - are those women not classed as a "child" if someone has sex with them?

I think it's a bit off that Johnson is looking at similar prison time to Evans.

I've not been following this case closely, but whilst it seems like Johnson's slimy, I think raping a woman who has practically passed out on your friend's bed is much worse than a hand down a 15 year old's jeans.

Evans didn't do that though, not in the way you're implying (or I'm implying to your words at least). From the evidence presented in court it was deemed that she was too drunk to have given Evans consent. I don't think she at any point said she didn't give consent, largely because she was too pissed to remember, so in Evans eyes he wasn't raping some unconscious and unwilling woman.

It's a fine line, but quite a difference IMO.
