I thought something similar when I saw him play and thought of the way McDermott got the best out of Jimmy.

They're similar players in that they're quick wide men and very unpredictable, but clearly with ability in abundance. It's unlikely John would have the same impact as Kebe did, unless we sign him permanently, and even then McDermott would need to work the same magic he did with Jimmy.

The jury's out, but unless we sign him permanently I don't think he will be.

John has shown he can be a pretty creative player with an ability to beat people and work well with other forwards.

Jimmy Kébé was a towering genius of football. A god-like figure. A sublime apparition.

John has a long, long way to be even rightfully considered in the same sentence as Jimmy, let alone as a similar footballer.

John arrived and clearly had talent, but he failed to show anything to suggest he could reproduce it consistently as a starter or with definite end product. He's starting to put together a string of good first team performances now and could well be a very exciting player, as Kebe was.

No, it was the way he beat people, the crosses from nowhere, the speed he had, the goal in under 10 seconds against West Brom in the FA Cup, the languid grace, the bullet header away at Watford, the twists and the turns.

He was footballing elegance. Every time he got the ball you got the feeling something unexpected and breathtakingly magnificent could happen. The pulling up of the socks was just a rather brilliant cameo.

He was, quite simply, an outstandingly exciting footballer.

Don't agree - the excitement was very infrequent and was complete dog in the play off final.

Jimmy was a footballing God and those of us lucky enough to see him play at his best will all have our own special memories of those times - mine was away to Norwich 2008/2009. A hard fought game turned on its head by Long and Kebe late in the second half, two brilliant crosses from Jimmy and two preditory goals from Shane. Golden Days !
