Unless something else happened off camera that we didn't see. Pretty bizarre to ban Williams - who was on the end of head butt.

So by that decision - players on the receiving end of violent conduct should also be banned for 3 games. The FA are jokes

Fair enough. Not what you want younger supporters to see at a football match.

As others have said move on.

I could care less if they miss games but retrospective red cards for that, come off it!
It was a coming together, little evidence of a butt and a bit of shouting. And they're on the same team!
A fine for each should have been enough

Williams accepted the same charge so got the same punishment. Could have risked contesting the charge had he wanted to try to avoid same punishment.

As for those who are suggesting that the offence is less and the punishment should be less because they are on the same team - the laws of the game and guidance issued to officials (clubs and players) are very clear. It is viewed and punished just as seriously as if it had happened between players from opposing teams.

Williams put both hands on McShanes face, counts as violent conduct I guess.

A three match ban is absolutely ridiculous from the FA. This should have been dealt with as an internal Reading FC matter.

Our players did nothing against Middlesbrough so the FA shouldn't have got involved. It was such a minor incident. You see this type of thing happening between opposition players every week and the FA don't step in and take retrospective action. The reason the incident made big news is because it was between two players on the same side. For the FA to take the action that they did is grossly unfair and completely over exaggerated. Once again those in the media (Dellor/Sky Sports) have blown an incident out of proportion, the FA have picked up on it and handed out a disproportionate sentence. People like Dellor are in a position of great influence and others do react on their ramblings. If Dellor is a true supporter of Reading FC then he needs to speak with a bit more responsibility.

The only interesting thing about this incident compared to incidents that happen every week between opposing players is that it was two players from the same team. Otherwise you see this every week across the football league.

No where in the laws does it say violent conduct has to be targeted at the opposition. The authorities have done exactly the right thing in taking action. The length of ban is mandated by the offence and making an aggressive move with your head has qualified for years. Williams can perhaps consider himself more unlucky depending on whether there's more we haven't seen. But he was certainly aggressive and charged towards McShane as well.

Giving different punishments arguably clouds the waters when this is as much about sending a message on unacceptable behaviour as it is punishing a specific person for a specific offence.

To suggest you see that every week is absolutely ludicrous. I'm not sure I've seen the like from Reading players in 20 years. Certainly not more than once or twice.

It wasn't particularly violent. Just a little bit of pushing. Opposing players react like this towards each other every single week.

It was only news because the two players concerned were on the same side and that is what was unusual. It was just handbags. The punishment is very harsh.

There was a very clear and aggressive move of McShane's head at Williams. That has been an almost certain red card, particularly with the run up, for years. Thinking anything else is absolutely deluded. If a Boro player had done it to Williams, every single Reading fan would have been baying for blood.

Spot on!

Imagine if it had been Barton or one of Warnock's players!

The FA are going to be very busy dealing with the bans for everyone involved in the bust up at the beginning of Norwich v Sunderland yesterday

Aren't they?

McDermott appearing to condone this behavior after the game can't help. Just like when the club played sound effects over the pitch invader last year. This is a case of the FA wanting to teach the club a lesson (again) rather than proportionately punish the offence.

Exactly. This happens every week.

Our incident only made the news because they were on the same side. 3 game bans are harsh. There won't be any consistency as the FA will not punish similar incidents between opposing players that happened this weekend.

Apparently there was more to it than just that initial clash on the 15 seconds video.

You obviously haven't watched much football.

What's your source that the FA won't take action?
