Terry Brown has great track record of taking clubs up through the lower leagues into the national level - Basingstoke clearly hoping for same approach. Hope it works.

paultheroyal Basingstoke Town FC get relegated and then announce they are going Full Time!!!!

That will be interesting, full time at that level with a decent manager like Terry Burton should mean they can get to Conference National in the next 2/3 seasons.

Wonder if James Harper will still be playing for them next season.

Anyone got any background on where the money for this is coming from?

Rather hoping Reading would "link up" with Maidenhead or any one of the other clubs in Berkshire but I suppose we already have enough of those; Juventus (did anything come of that), Galatasaray, possibly Monaco plus I think we did something in India.

Harper was released along with the other top earners.

Looks like they will be poaching the best released under 21 players around the region and putting them on contracts. They have also now linked up with QPR who will be sending their young stars down.

Interesting times.

Sounds more like very uncertain times ahead for Basingstoke if you ask me.

It either works very well or more likely, the club goes down the toilet completely. You can't operate at that level FT without a big fan base or benefactor (which it seems they don't have). Once you rack up debts, the leagues are all over you with points deductions and demotions and that's pretty much that. See Farnborough.

...here we are - as promised a fairly full set of my blatherings that constitute a round up of 'ups/downs and maybes' in local NL:

Saturday 23rd April

NAT
Aldershot Town 1-2 Southport
Lincoln City 2-3 Woking
- One more round of matches left in this division and all KO at 17:30 next Saturday. Cheltenham are already Champions and make a quick return to the FL.
- FGR sit 2nd and will play any one of half-a-doz clubs who can finish in 5th place. The PO semi-finals are held over 2 legs at this level: May 4th and 8th : Final on May 15th (@ Wemberlee)
- Braintree secured a foothold in the POs and ended Wrexham’s slim chances with a thrilling 3-2 win at The Racecourse – came from 2-1 down to win it in the last 10’ in front of a crowd of 4,500. Should they get a point or more at home to Altrincham, live on BT Sport next week, they’ll finish in the top 5 and effectively eliminate Tranmere and Eastliegh. Amongst other final day fixtures, Dover (3rd) host FGR and Grimsby (4th) go to Tranmere; Sh!ts travel to Bromley whilst Woking host Eastleigh

NATN
Curzon Ashton 1-1 Brackley Town - ‘Saints' hopes hanging by a thread now, following Lowestoft’s late win at home to Worcester last Tuesday. Lowestoft also drew 1-1 yesterday, levelled in injury time, at Tamworth. Brackley now need to beat Tamworth next Saturday and hope the ‘Trawler Boys’ don’t get more than 1 point from their remaining two matches. Should the sides finish level ‘Saints’ GD is better.

NATS
Basingstoke Town 2-0 Truro City
Concord Rangers 0-1 Havant & Waterlooville ‘Hawks’ have two games left and could climb to safety above StAlebuns or Margit
Dartford 2-2 Oxford City
Eastbourne Borough 3-0 Gosport Borough
Hayes & Yeading Utd 0-3 Bath City - HandY all but relegated –following StAlebuns draw at Wealdstone.
Margate 4-3 Hemel Hempstead Town
Sutton United 2-0 Chelmsford City
Wealdstone 1-1 St Albans City
Weston-Super-Mare 2-0 Maidenhead United - ‘Magpies’ dismal showing against another relegation threatened club, means their PO chances are over – they can just catch Hemel but not only would they need a swing of 5 goals in GD, Hemel also play Whitehawk in their last fixture and since they are only a point behind the ‘Tudors’ that rules out 5th spot for Maidenhead. 'Magpies’ finish the season at home to Concord next Saturday and tbf top eight constitutes a good finishing place.
Whitehawk 1-0 Maidstone United
- Truro could also be ousted from the top 5 if Whitehawk and Hemel both get results to overtake but the 'White Tigers' would also need to lose all three of their remaining fixtures – highly implausible – it’s in their hands as they face Whitehawk at Treyew Rd this Tuesday evening, then travel to Havant on Thursday.
- An unlikely combination of results above might even see Dartford sneak into 5th.
- Sutton Utd go up as Champs – Ebbsfleet and Maidstone await the outcome of the scramble just below them .
- Semi-Finals of the POs are also over 2 legs May 4th & 8th – but Final is held on the ground of the highest placed club.

ISTHP
Farnborough 3-0 Brentwood Town
Staines Town 2-2 Canvey Island

SOUTHP
Chesham United 1-0 Weymouth
Leamington 0-0 Hungerford Town –‘Crusaders’ finish 4th and go to Hitchin (3rd) this Wednesday in the PO semi-final – the other S-F pitches Redditch (2nd) vs Leamington (5th) . Final probably on B/H Monday at the ground of the highest placed finalist – will be at Bulpit Lane if they win this week and Leamington bt Redditch.
Merthyr Town 2-0 Slough Town
SOUTH1C
AFC Rushden & Diamonds 2-0 Godalming Town
Beaconsfield SYCOB 2-2 Bedford Town – SYCOB end up in 9th place
Chalfont St Peter 4-2 Leighton Town – Leighton probably down (pending FA ‘piece-shuffling’) with NGU, following Hanwell’s vital win at Ware. Ch St P miss out on the POs by 6 points in 6th place.
Fleet Town 1-2 Arlesey Town – Fleet finish in 17th place
Petersfield Town 0-1 Kings Langley – was here: tense nervous affair. KL finally scored on 75’ shortly after the news filtered in that Royston had levelled with the 'Sarnies', putting Kings Langley back on top with only a draw. The visitors cause was greatly assisted by their hosts the 'Rams' having most of their forward players unavailable absent or out injured.

Royston Town 1-1 Egham Town - both sides reduced to 10 men, made somewhat academic since KL won @ Petersfield
Uxbridge 1-0 Aylesbury United
Ware 0-1 Hanwell Town

- PO line-up this week (Tuesday)
Egham Town v St Ives Town
Royston Town v AFC Rushden & Diamonds

SOUTH1S&W
Banbury United 2-0 Taunton Town
Burnham 0-1 Bridgwater Town
Marlow 0-3 Evesham United
North Leigh 4-1 Bashley – pushing Bash just beyond the 200 goals conceded for the league season.
Shortwood United 1-1 Winchester City late pen for City grabs a point
Swindon Supermarine 0-0 Didcot Town - Diddy end up 10th one place behind Nor Lye and three above Marlow.
Tiverton Town 4-0 Wantage Town ‘Freds’ hit the century mark of goals conceded – finish 5 points above Burnham

- PO line-up this week (Tuesday)
Banbury United v Winchester City
Taunton Town v Swindon Supermarine

CCLP
Ashford Town (Middx) 2-0 Sutton Common Rovers
Bedfont Sports 1-3 Horley Town
Chessington & Hook United 0-3 Windsorplayed at Stag Meadow - Windsor currently sit 10th with one game left H v Farnham. Their visitors next Saturday are in a cluster of clubs just below Windsor who could climb above them with games in hand.
Farnham Town 1-0 AFC Hayes
Guildford City 1-2 Camberley Town
Hanworth Villa 2-3 Epsom & Ewell
Hartley Wintney {TEN} 10-0 Raynes Park Vale – in spite of ‘The Row’s’ crushing disappointment at not being allowed to go up on ground grading, they aren’t packing it in and are still pushing hard for the Champions place.
Knaphill 3-0 Cove - an impressive 2nd half of the season sees the ‘Knappers’ climb up to a heady 5th place – still have three games left to fend off the challenge of Horley just below them.

Redhill 3-1 Chertsey Town
Westfield
2-2 Badshot Lea
- Wins for the 2nd (Camberley) and 3rd (Ashford Town) puts 4th placed Epsom & Ewell out of contention for runner- up spot and possible promotion.
- The two contenders are locked level on points with Camberley only ahead by 1 goal but they do have a game in hand on the ‘Ashtrees’.
- Ashford Town visit Chertsey in midweek then travel to Epsom & E.
- Camberley ‘s three remaining games are all away : at relegated Chess ‘n Hook on Tuesday – not sure where they’ll play that, with Chalky Lane seemingly out of action this month. I’d expect the League to insist on a neutral venue rather than a simple switch to Krooner. Camberley then go to SCR who are safe from the drop now, on the 30th and finish the season rather pointedly away at Hartley Wintney on the B/H Monday 13:00 KO – could be a bumper crowd there if the title is still up for grabs or promotion is on offer to the visitors.
- Relegation to Div One spots now filled by Cove, Chess ‘n Hook (who still have 4 games to play including three at ‘home’ and Redhill; who finished with an amazing uplift in form but sadly the clubs above them just scrambled together enough points to keep them at bay.

CCL1
Ash United 3-0 Eversley & California
CB Hounslow United 2-0 Banstead Athletic
Dorking 4-3 Worcester Park
Farleigh Rovers 1-4 Bedfont & Feltham
Sandhurst Town 2-0 Epsom Athletic
South Park Res 0-3 Staines Lammas
- Promotion slots probably held by CB Hounslow, Abbey Rangers and Bedfont & Feltham – always an unknown relating to how many will be promoted – often governed by the projected size of the Premier for the next season and whose coming down from Ryman but three seems most likely . Eversley & California fell away badly in the run in.
- Some talk about potential new teams coming up from feeder leagues but not picked up any concrete proposals yet

HELLP
Reading Q-F
Henley Town 1-0 Bracknell Town - minor upset but ‘Red Kites’ progress to meet Westwood Utd from the Reading League in the last four.
- Other S-F between Highmoor/IBIS and Binfield takes place next Saturday at H/I’s new home Scours Lane

WESSP
Fareham Town 1-1 Whitchurch United
Sholing 3-0 Andover Town
- most issues long-settled in this division -
- Salisbury are Champions by a distance Blackfield and Langley runners-up. Andover Town are 4th and the 'Jam Boys' will probably finish in 13th but a few other clubs have suffered a positive flood of postponements, which will extend the season somewhat - Horndean have 7 games left Fareham have 6 and Newport IoW have 5.

WESS1
Andover New Street 0-5 Portland United
Pewsey Vale 1-2 Fleet Spurs
Tadley Calleva 4-2 Ringwood Town
Totton & Eling 1-3 Alton Town

- Could be an exciting finish here (try and follow this! ) : Amesbury Town’s big away win yesterday at Hythe & Dibden, means they only need one point from 2 games to secure runners-up spot behind runaway champions Portland. In their remaining fixtures Amesbury host the Champions (Portland) on Tuesday then 3rd placed Tadley on Saturday 30th.
If Amesbury are beaten in midweek AND meanwhile the ‘Tadders’ can grab wins in both their midweek games (this Tuesday H v Totton & E and Thursday A v Hythe & D) , another win for them at Amesbury, sets them up for a remarkable tilt at 2nd place.
They finish their fixtures with a home game vs bottom club and whipping boys East Cowes Vics – but that game isn’t scheduled until Saturday 7th May!

Berks Trophy Centre Cup S-F
Cookham Dean 3-2 Westwood United

..other Semi-Final due next Tuesday 3rd May
Reading YMCA v Aldermaston
@ Scours Lane KO 19:30
Final held at MadStad middle of May

Camberley will get double figures against Chessington & Hook - they were awful yesterday against Windsor.

Old men and kids.

To beat them only 3-0 was a bit embarrassing really.

Four Of Clubs .
Shortwood United 1-1 Winchester City late pen for City grabs a point

- PO line-up this week (Tuesday)
Banbury United v Winchester City
Taunton Town v Swindon Supermarine

The draw was enough to get Winch into the play offs despite a woeful drop in form after the loss of Zac Glasspool.

The play off game against Banbury is 0-0 at half time.

If I post again, it means we won.

...yeah tough one - late winner for 'Puritans' from ex-Oxford City man Barcelos - nearly went but didn't fancy the longer than usual journey for me for midweek. Banbury host Taunton who came from behind to beat Supermarine, in Monday's PO one S&W Final

Other local side in Play Offs flopped out too -in the One Central Section Egham beaten at home 2-4 on pens by St Ives after extra time 2-2. The winners now host AFC Rushden & Diamonds who won 2-1 at Royston.

In the Ryman South PO Final Worthing (7-0 winners over Hythe) will play Faversham who edged out new boys to Ryman this year Dorking Wanderers.

..here's hoping Hungerford can get to their divisional PO Final on B/H Monday with a result at Hitchin tonight - but that will be tough too.

I chose a shorter less stressful jaunt, down to Woking Park to see Hartley Wintney crowned CCLP Champions with a straightforward, for the most part, 2-0 win over Westfield.

In the promotion race in that division, with Hartley Wintney ineligible, Camberley surprisingly drew a blank at Chess 'n Hook whilst 'Ashtrees' (Ashford Town (Mx)) re-took 2nd place with a thumping 5-0 win at Chertsey.
Knaphill's good run continued with a 3-2 win at Farnham.

Slightly better news locally-ish (National League North) - Brackley's fate is still perilous but their closest rivals Lowestoft lost their game in hand tonight 0-3 at home to North Ferriby. Goes to the last game this Saturday - to survive the 'Saints' must beat Tamworth and hope Lowestoft don't pick up more than one point at home to Gloucester.

In the Wessex One Tadley Calleva kept their astonishing late season charge going and applied some pressure on Amesbury for the runners-up spot; with a 4-0 win over Totton & Eling. They must hope Champions Portland can win or draw tonight (Wed 27th) at Amesbury to give Tadley a outside chance of a possible showdown this Saturday, when Tadley go to Amesbury. :?
(Tadley do still have to win at Hythe & Dibden on Thursday - but they somehow contrived to lose 3-4 at home last night to strugglers Pewsey Vale.)

I suspect the 'Tadders' could well run out of puff by Saturday, though they do have a week before their final league game.

.... Hungerford won their Play Off semi final at Hitchin tonight, coming from 2 goals down to W3-2.

They will host Leamington on B/H Monday PM, The Brakes winning 3-1 on penalties at Redditch.

From a selfish viewpoint I'd have preferred Redditch to prevail as it would have meant a new ground for me that afternoon but I suppose it gives the Crusaders the best chance of progressing to STEP Two , which would be some achievement. Little over 10 years ago they were in the lower reaches of the Hellenic.

Elsewhere no fairy tale ending for Tadley's late charge in Wessex One as Amesbury beat Champions Portland 3-1 and confirm runners-up spot.

... here's today's NL fixtures 'locally' - more or less the last 'full' Saturday of fixtures, be just a few odds/sods, cups & play-offs for the next couple of weeks..... there's a fairly small programme of matches on B/H Monday including the three Southern League divisional Play Off Finals and the Final of the Isthmian Premier between East Thurrock Utd and Dulwich Hamlet. Will sling something together tomorrow probably - together with the National League PO line-ups. :)

Saturday 30th April

NAT (17:30 KOs)
Bromley v Aldershot Town
Woking v Eastleigh
NATN
Brackley Town v Tamworth
NATS
Bath City v Margate
Chelmsford City v Basingstoke Town
Ebbsfleet United v Eastbourne Borough
Gosport Borough v Hayes & Yeading Utd
Havant & Waterlooville v Weston-Super-Mare
Hemel Hempstead Town v Whitehawk
Maidenhead United v Concord Rangers
Maidstone United v Bishop's Stortford
Oxford City v Sutton United
St Albans City v Dartford
Truro City v Wealdstone

SOUTHERN LEAGUE
Championship Match Final (between the two Divison One Winners):
@ The Causeaway, Cinderford
Cinderford Town v Kings Langley

CCLP
Badshot Lea v Redhill
Chertsey Town v Knaphill
Cove v Bedfont Sports

Epsom & Ewell v Ashford Town (Middx)
Horley Town v Chessington & Hook United
Raynes Park Vale v Westfield
Spelthorne Sports v Hartley Wintney
Sutton Common Rovers v Camberley Town - Camberley have to hope they can win here and 'The Salts' do them a favour this PM at home to Ashford. Otherwise they'll have to do it the hard way and win on B/H Monday at Champions Hartley Wintney, to pinch runner-up spot and with it promotion. I cannot see 'The Row' letting that happen without a real battle. That blank away at Chess 'n Hook in midweek has seriously damaged their prospects - especially if the Ashtrees win today. Camberley are still involved in THREE Cups though:
- They are in the final of the Aldershot Senior Cup vs Farnham on Wed 11th May at the Rec - they overcame STEP04 Fleet Town on their own ground on Tuesday
- The CCL Cup Final at Windsor NEXT w/e vs Farnham.
- They also have a Southern Combination Cup Semi-Final at Molesey in midweek - the winners face either Chess 'n Hook or Dorking in the Final - date/venue tba

Windsor v Farnham Town
CCL1
Abbey Rangers v Banstead Athletic
Bedfont & Feltham v Sandhurst Town
Dorking Wanderers Res v CB Hounslow United
Epsom Athletic v Cobham
Farleigh Rovers v Eversley & California
Sheerwater v Frimley Green

HELLENIC
Bluefin Sports Supplementary Cup - Final
Fairford Town v Didcot Town Res' @ Wilks Park Flackwell Heath FC

Reading Senior Cup - Semi-Final
Highmoor-Ibis v Binfield @ Scours Lane
...winners will meet Henley or Westwood Utd at the MadStad in a couple of weeks time. The other S-F is taking place on Wed 11th May also at Scours Lane (KO 19:30)

WESSP
Andover Town v Fareham Town
Whitchurch United v Blackfield & Langley - B&L ousted from 2nd spot behind Salisbury by defeat at Sholing in midweek - 'The Boatmen' winning 1-0 in front of over 120 on a wet horrible Thursday. The visitors today could re-take 2nd spot providing they can beat the 'Jam Boys' this PM. Their final game is at Fareham next Thursday. They have a game in hand on Sholing, who play their last fixture at strugglers Fawley this PM.
WESS1
Alton Town v Christchurch
Amesbury Town v Tadley Calleva - sadly NOT now the showdown for runners-up spot it might have been, although Tadley did still win at Hythe & Dibden on Thursday. They still have the N.Hants Cup Final at the Camrose [KO 19:45] to look forward to this coming Thursday where they'll play Whitchurch Utd

Ringwood Town v Andover New Street
Romsey Town v Pewsey Vale

...got to a game in this division last night (Friday): popped down to Kennels Lane to see Fleet Spurs finish their season with a limp 0-3 defeat at the hands of Downton - who leap-frog over them into 10th place. One thing of note was the opening goal, which was less of a goal-mouth scramble and more of an impromptu outbreak of 'Twister', with the ball completely immaterial to the outcome. Finally spinning over the line having cannoned off of the Goalkeepers chin and a prone defender - now there's one for the dubious goals committee!!

...if 'domestic forces' align correctly this evening 8) may well try and get over the inevitable crushing despair at witnessing yet another insipid effort at the 'Theatre of Yawns/Shrugs' this PM :| ....... and zap up the A4074 to the N.Baaarks Charity Cup Final at Abingdon Town's Culham Rd - 19:00 KO : Burghclere v Lambourn
