Zammo Saw a retweet from Kes last night from CheLOLsea FC stating that all players involved in the FA Cup youth win are eligible to play for England. Whilst that is great news for the country, will be interesting to see how many will make the grade at the club. As discussed elsewhere on this thread their track record isn’t that great, but perhaps with Utd turning to youngsters this season we are seeing a change in how big clubs operate. I probably wouldn’t post as much on this thread if CheLOLsea first XI was majority English.

It happens at most clubs though. City won the FA YOUTH CUP in 2008 - how many are 1st teamers now?

United were the exception with the likes of Beckham, Scholes, Butt etc. That probably won't happen again at any club.

To be fair that's quite a nice stat by Chelsea.

I'm assuming that 'being eligible' for England doesn't actually mean those kids are English or are planning on playing for England, but it's more a by product of the length of time some have been at Chelsea. It's still a good sign though.

Talking of United's success, has LvG now killed off the long running and very impressive stat that every United side since the 60's (roughly speaking as I can't recall the exact date) contained at least one product of the academy.

Is there a reason you're ignoring Rashford? He's doing OK

Because he's only played the last dozen games.

There have been fleeting appearances for the likes of McNair, Borthwick-Jackson and Fosu-Mensah.

Lingard may have been in the side long enough to keep the record up too but it's just a pretty amazing feat for a club to have kept up so long. My impression is that over the last 18 months LvG might not've kept it up.

I've done a little Googling on it and it looks like the record wasn't youth products in the starting line up, just in the match day squad. The record dates back to 1937 and covers over 3,750 games.

I thought that LvG broke that record on 26th September against Sunderland. Double checked it Andreas Pereira (and unused sub) probably counts as he was signed as a 16 year old and played in the U18s and U21s.

I've not continued to check after that as Lingard and Rashford have been regulars for the latter parts of the season and plenty were on the bench earlier on in the season.

Fcking hell Chelsea.

May your unpleasant club, fans, players, the lot suffer, er, a plague of locusts.

Quite. it's lucky they apparently really care about this result - who knows how bad they'd be otherwise.

Hope Spurs put 5 past them now.

A whole generation of glory boys will turn to Spurs rather than Chelsea.

I'm trying to be positive here.

He's been looking for a fight all game. Constantly pushing people during breaks in play, not surprised he did that.

TBF, Hazard has made a real difference and Spurs have done the same as they did v West Brom.
