This is for promotion and not the league outright

We are 5/2 for playoffs and 8/1 to be releg8ed

For promotion most of the division are 9/2 or 13/2.

Bookies odds are also not there to predict the most likely outcome of something. They are there to offer value and nothing more.

I don't see the point in analysing promotion odds while we still don't know 2 of the 3 releg8ed teams anyway

Are you actually saying you think bookies odds are a list of what they think is most likely to happen in order?

You are not that stupid RR

Reckon it's a typo by skybet. Should be the relegation odds and I think they're about right making us second favourites to go down

I'd have Reading as likely relegation candidates based on the last two seasons of total crap and the mess that still appears to be going on in the boardroom.

Indeed I am not. Of course.

Sorry, it's just the suggestion that bookies are there to offer value and nothing more that I found naive and a little startling.

But it's also worth considering how bookies go about setting the odds when they open a new book.

Can't argue with this sentiment at the moment. Let's hope that we are all singing a different tune when the summer business has been done and we have a better idea of the squad and management team chosen to take the club forward (and upwards!)

Naive, startling & nonsense. You are on fire this morning RR.

They are little more than a shop finding a price point to offer the best value to the customer and themselves.

Expect that to change a fair bit when all three relegated teams, all three remaining playoff teams and all three promoted teams are confirmed.

There's a rumour without any foundation, so far, that the Thais want to sell up.

Floyd also claims that IWS is resigning shortly and Madejski is being made an honourary figurehead rather than having any involvement.

Oh ok, pinch of salt stuff for the time being then as opposed to the mess on the pitch.

They typically are. There are adjustments made where they think there'll be comparably heavy betting on some competitors (hence the low odds for England in international tournaments), but otherwise, yes, there'll be an incredibly high correlation between odds and their perceived likelihood of a certain team achieving their objective.

Those actual odds are obviously massaged to offer exceptional value for long shot bets, to encourage people to (most probably) waste money on them, and shortened for likely outcomes to make people think those outcomes are not worth betting on, but that's a different matter entirely.

The odds for next year's championship will bear little resemblance to the figures shown above. They are just all very short as they don't really want to take bets yet.
