Dr_Hfuhruhurr I'm all a bit apathetic to be honest. Its quite clearly been written by a PR company. There's no substance to it at all.

My take on it as well. "Nigel, put together a statement and we'll put our names to it. Usual bollocks will do to appease the numpties. Thanks."

Build from within is a warning to those of you hoping for lots of new signings.
The Thai's wont be long after they sell their properties.

Brian won't be going, he'll still be managing the club at the start of next season.

Think the first signing we make might well be the centre back Rob Holding from Bolton and we'll see him, Cooper, McShane and Dickie take up the four specialists in that position next season. We'll need another experienced CB if Cooper gets flogged to Bournemouth though.

In my humble opinion, we should build around a core of senior players: Al Habsi, Gunter, McShane, Cooper, Obita, Evans, Tishbola, Quinn, McCleary, Rakels and Kermorgant. The rest of them need to go.

Add two new strikers to compete with Kermorgant and Rakels next season
Add three new wingers
At least 1 new goalkeeper (Feds, McCarthy) Al Habsi needs to be replaced but is not the most urgent priority.
etc....

You don't make money in the Championship, and you wont win promotion when you flood the first-team with inexperienced youth products. Once planning permission is agreed, they will sell the football club, minus it's most attractive asset, and leave us with a larger debt than when they took over (over £60m now). Then we wait and see what type of vulture comes in next.

Silver Fox They've said the right things there, although I'd have liked Brian to get a shout by name as the man to take us forward.

I'd agree with that. It's pretty bland and unoffensive and obviously just trying to reassure fans that they want to be here and want to challenge for promotion but without stating anything too exciting or definitive that might be held against them in the future.

Not mentioning McDermott is perhaps quite a glaring omission but, on the flip side, if they'd been a bit more explicit they'll either have got called out for giving him the dreaded Vote of Confidence or tied their hands for taking action at a later date after giving him their support.

A nice effort though.

Samuel will be one of those two

Fosu and Stacey will be expected to take two of those roles

Absolutely agree. Habsi does not inspire confidence. We need someone who does. May not be a priority but it does need to be sorted, we can then try to get Bond out on loan somewhere to see how good he can be.

Hopefully the young lads Samuel, Fosu and Stacey will be good enough for the Championship.

I'm more than happy to be patient and give them the space to develop. I don't know if other Reading fans are patient enough. 50% are already judging that McDermott is not the right man for the job according to Charles Watts poll in Get Reading.

It's all a bit of a manufactured message but a necessary one after rumours of them wanting to sell the club, which were then made more official by Charles Watts, probably a poor decision on his part.

I actually quite like the 2nd paragraph where they admit they're learning and still trying to work things out. Not quite apologetic but at least a recognition of some culpability on their part.

As I've said before, they almost certainly looked at the two promoted clubs from last season and didn't like the idea of a major investment risk that Bournemouth took so went the Watford route.

There is no single blueprint for success. You have to find your way and commit to it. We've committed to CAT A academy and a new training ground. Again as I've said before despite the obvious failings under AZ , this is something very positive that came out of his time and can help us to move forward as a club.

These are difficult times for so many clubs particularly at Championship level where the rewards for success is so high and yet the risks far outweigh them.

They've said all along that they weren't going to be throwing huge amounts of money at it. But if we continue growing the infrastructure then it allows us to take a few more calculated risks further down the road. I think the January signings give an indication of what sort of business we'll be doing this summer.

I still remain sceptical about how much the football club will ultimately benefit from the investment in Royal Elm Park but since they've mentioned it in the statement I'll take that at face value and that it's for the benefit of the club rather than the Thais own personal business interests.

I'm glad they've spoken out even if it has been run through a PR machine.

Hopefully, Royal Elm Park will be good for both Reading Football Club and Thai's business interest. If Royal Elm Park's revenue is going to be used to help finance and sustain Reading football club then that makes the whole Reading Football Club package more valuable when they sell it in the future. But I guess we will always be at risk of asset stripping by present or future owners.
If Royal Elm Park brings a few pubs and restaurants on to the Mad Stad site then that will hopefully add to the match day experience at least.

Being a bit picky here (and off at a tangent for this topic), but Cooper, Evans and Tshibola aren't senior players, and I don't think you could include Rakels in that group in terms of being experienced at this level.

We don't need to be buying in a load of unproven youngsters though, we should be using our own for that where possible, although a couple of up and coming players like Dack and Gudmundsson would be a good way to go, but we do need to add a couple more established players (happily on frees if that saves a few quid - debatable).

I think that's unlikely as Holding signed a new contract with Bolton and is now being touted as a target for the likes of Everton. I think we missed the boat with that one.

BM actually made results worse the longer he was in charge. 1 point out of a possible 18. It was a good job the season finished when it did.

Yes, it is a good job the season has finally ended. Watching Steve Clarke's failed recruitment policy week in and week out was getting seriously annoying.

Finally, Brian can now get to work and start clearing up the Chelsea man's mess.

Yeah - he's only had 6 months to make 'some' improvement. But things have got worse.

Probably written by Howe or Mortimer-Z. Tells us absolutely nothing.
LOL at comment must have been written by PR department. The sad fact is that there is a total lack at PR at the Club and has been for a number of years. There is no communication between the Club and the fans, and it is only recent comments on this website and the local media which as prompted the Club say something.

It's not easy to fix a mess made in Chelsea!

I wonder if Clarke will find that really easy job that he is looking for. I bet Celtic didn't even want to talk to him, now that Rangers are back. It won't be as easy for Celtic next year. That immediately makes Clarke the wrong man for that job.

both, surely.
the best case scenario for both us and them is they build the development, we get a nicer area around the stadium, the town gets a decent venue, the club/owners get more income, we build a successful side and get promoted to the prem.

Yeah - he's only had 6 months to make 'some' improvement. But things have got worse.

amazing what sacking your 2nd manager in as many years, selling your only two strikers, and trying to reduce the wage bill to fit your parachute mayments can do to a side aintit
