Top Flight I find it impossible at this early stage to pass a judgement over McDermott in his current stint as Reading manager. He hasn't failed or succeeded yet in his job as our boss. His mission has barely begun.

What I do know about him though, is that he is one of only two managers to get Reading in to the top division since 1871. His track record as Reading manager in just 3 years as our boss reads 1 League title, 1 play-off final and 3 FA CUP quarter finals.

On that basis, he deserves the chance to actually do the job that he was brought in to do.

You're the kind of person that would sack your builder before he has laid his first brick. Or walk out of Cafe Nero before the milk has been frothed up and poured into your cappuccino.

You need to just chill out and be patient.

And Top Flight thinks that just avoiding relegation would be a sign of an excellent season from McDermott. At least he's said it about 5 times.

I'll be happy with that Ian, for next season. I'll support the club to the maximum and if Brian keeps us up, then I'll gladly buy him a few pints.

If he can navigate us to a season of safety following this huge summer of transformation then I won't be moaning.
Hopefully then, the following year we can push on and make a bid for the play offs.

somehow doubt that's the script he's been given, I sense the owners will want some progress quickly (if they stick with him and if they don't sell up) especially after the tedium since he took over ..

Its been no more or less dull than when our season was over last year under Clarke.

Its what happens when the season is done and no one gives a oxf*rd

I think it's been better than last season under Clarke. At that point I simply couldn't see any positives. Currently there are very clear weaknesses, but I think there is a clear indication of a way forward and a strong core who are staying.

At the end of May 2015 we had the prospect of going into the summer with no one I'd consider an experienced senior centreback, no senior experienced goalkeeper. Norwood had come off a poor second half of the season, way worse than this one.

This year, we have a clear spine to the team in the form of Al-Habsi, McShane and Quinn, even if Norwood goes. We've also played some good stuff in the middle of the park. It's the spark upfront (which would help reduce pressure at the back) and concentration at the back that are our issues. Those are easier to fix, IMO, than a side devoid of any plan with gaping holes throughout, losing several of its best performers.

Except it was more exciting as you had an FA CUP semi-final which you probably should have won if it wasn't for Spazzerici's monumental fook up.

And let's not forget who brought in Al-Habsi, McShane and Quinn......

So - Last season >>>>>>>>>>>>>> This season.

The two big problems are 1) Coops was directly responsible for over half a dozen goals against -that said our total goals against column is not that bad-Coops will get better and stopping goals is a lot easier than the other problem, and that is scoring them.

2) Our goals for count was pathetic & puts the likes of Cooper/McShane/Al Habsi under huge pressure.

Unfortunately this isn't easily fixed on a limited budget.

The best we can hope for is a couple of lower league reasonable goal scorers & then hope they can step up a division or two and still score 15 -20 goals for the Club.

It obviously was going down the pan as something was very stinky behind the scenes, only option was to change it and hope. Wrong choice of manager IMO, but now he's here he deserves a fair chance and support in what he wants to do with the squad in the summer.

I'm allowed to change my view if I want to... That's why we have these discussions isn't it. We debate these issues and put different arguments and cases forward, If someone gives me a good reason backed up by evidence as to why McDermott should go and those reasons are powerful and compelling and more persuasive than the reasons why he should stay then I may change my mind.

So far, all I have heard from the Brian out camp is that he is tactically inept (I don't really know what you're talking about), he has his favourites (Again, sounds like rubbish to me), and he is stubborn (more nonsense).

From the Brian In camp we have superb managerial track record (1 League title, 3 Cup quarter finals and Play off final.) This is an indisputable fact. All achieved in just 3 years as Reading FC Manager and whilst having his star players sold every transfer window.

Looking at all the evidence, the arguments in favour of Brian seem far more persuasive and powerful than the weak arguments that say he should go.

We should have been looking to push for the play off places though, especially considering the start we had. You're telling me the objective was to merely stay up?

Hang on, doesn't mid table at Christmas under Brian sound familar? And where did we end up the last two times that happened?
