I was watching the Brighton game last night and thought what a gr8 job Hughton has done there. A set of average players finishing in 3rd. Shame BM couldn't do that at Reading or at least climb the table with probably a better squad on paper.

I know its been said that the squad mentally ended its season after the FA Cup QF defeat to Palace, but for me it ended a lot sooner than that, certainly in the league anyway. The team probably thought 'ok so were not going up, but were not in enough danger to go down' in about February, and of course many of them were thinking 'I won't be here next season anyway so who cares'.

And in fairness to McDonut, he won the championship title with a set of average players. Hughton showing it could still be done, I rate him a fair bit higher than McD as a manager though.

One of the things we can officially take from this season is that no longer is it necessary to try and get "a proven championship goal scorer". In Vydra and Kermorgant we had signed two players who on paper would have come under that qualification however didn't live up to their expectations (less so the latter) who managed a combined total of 5 league goals, with January-signed Kermorgant netting 60% of them.

I am now fairy optimistic that a cheap punt or one of our younger strikers could match and beat such a tally, without the expectation to boot.

I tend to agree "Country Royal" i am fed up of all these so called Super Stars coming in and grabbing a quick buck. Back to the Reading Way please, their are some great young players in the lower leagues and "Yes" it can be a gamble, but that's half the fun. I would much rather the Kitsons, Longs and Doyles than some off the players we have had recently.
And then there's the academy, bringing through academy players and finding a diamond in the rough is like finding the "Holy Grail" a la Gylfi style.
I have had enough of boring football and just want the team/players to give it their all and play for the club, and as supporters that is all anyone can ask for.

Six, 50/50.
Vydra scored against Brighton, and both matches against Forest, albeit the third coming off him from a Norwood shot, but it still counts. Otherwise agreed.

I'd expect Samuels or Rakels to at least equal their combined tally if either of them plays 30 games. Hell, I'd have expected Cox to do it if he was still here.
