Ian Royal Sent the club a complaint asking to cancel my ST renewal and voicing my disapproval. Will think about whether to renew my RP subscription when it's up in October.

I'm not walking away from the club.

 That's exactly what you're doing! At least it would be if there was any chance of the club agreeing to your request for a refund

I saw this on Football 365, it's probably worth putting here too...

I'll begin this post by saying that I don't agree with all of this, but I'm trying to see the reasoning that the Thais may have used for some of their recent decisions.

The Stadium Re-Development
I don't quite understand the fans' complete uproar about this. Comments on social media like "they're only in it for the land/property" are completely unfounded. What we do know is that Narin (50% shareholder) explicitly came out and said football clubs cannot make money, and therefore be a viable business, on just the football alone. Therefore they identified that there is great potential in the land surrounding the stadium, and set in motion plans to vastly increase our turnover without having to rely on the fortune of a promotion push. I agree that the ice rink is a tad strange, but fundamentally this is a sound business move. The frustration for fans, who in my experience are always looking for instant results, is that there will need to be a period where less is put into the playing side of the business to offset this.

The Management
I'll start by saying that in my opinion and with the beauty of hindsight the Thais' biggest mistake was to get rid of Adkins. I know he wasn't everyone's cup of team, but the stats suggest that our league form has waned drastically since his departure. Mistake number two was to allow themselves to be bullied by Steve Clarke during his tenure. The sacking of four key playing staff members (including the Kit Man ffs) gave him a god complex, and I've heard from several people involved with the club that he was a most unsavoury character. A lot of pro Clarke fans reference the fantastic couple of months at the start of the season as reason why we shouldn't have let him go. However for me this should only be further used to highlight his ineptitude, as the collapse that followed it was nothing short of spectacular, and serious questions must be asked about his man-management and signings.

Now onto Brian. My first reaction when he was appointed was one of disappointment, but following a bit of a think about his previous stint in charge, I figured if he can only be half as successful then we will be onto a winner. Those last few months were tough to watch (thank goodness we had a cup run again), and I feel awfully sorry Brian as there were an awful lot of factors that were taken out of his hands. Personally, I'd have liked to have seen him given the whole of next season to build a team and have a good go, BUT I do think sacking him yesterday is a better decision that to panic in December and get rid of another manager then.

The Academy & looking forward
Even prior to the Thais purchase, the club made a conscious decision to focus a huge amount of resource into the Academy. A sound business model that I'm sure we're all hoping will begin to bear fruit next season with the emergence of some of the young players who have been out on loan. I expect that the appointment of youth football specialist Brian Tevreden as DoF will see a big push towards this side of the football business, with approaches similar to Southampton's the model. Going back to the Brian sacking I imagine the Thais see it as a futile exercise to have a team whose core is from a heavily invested Academy managed by someone who doesn't specialise in youth football. This theory on face value is hard to argue with really, isn't it? If you owned a McDonalds and you had one candidate who manages a Kwik Fit and one that manages a Burger King, you'd clearly always going to go for the candidate with the most relevant experience.

Apologies, that did turn into the ramblings of a mad-man, but I just feel it is sometimes worth playing devil's advocate on things like this. Despite what may be read online, believe it or not, the Thais do want what's best for this club. Some decisions may come across as odd from time to time, but it's worth mentioning that they are constantly surrounded by good people who have been running the club for a long time. Let's have a bit of patience and see where this journey takes us, you never know in 12 months time we may be about to visit Wembley, or better still planning a Premier League campaign!

The only way Reading will be visiting Wembley next season is if they go to Ikea.

Not really. Brian joined the club as an academy coach, ended up managing the U18s with assistance from Brendan Rodgers, and eventually became the manager of our reserve side. He was very important for the development of the likes of Sigurdsson, Pearce, and Karacan.

In any case, if they didn't want a manager like McDermott, they shouldn't have appointed a manager like McDermott. It's not like nobody at the club knew anything about him.

Looking at the initial responses, it says quite a lot that 10 out of 63 have not renewed their season ticket. If I was in a position to be ST holder, I would not renew mine, either. I live further away and cannot attend home games so I can only show my frustration in a limited manner by unsubscribing from Reading HD Player. I know some are pooh-poohing this but the collective response sends a message of discontent and hits them where it hurts most - in the pocket.

I have supported RFC for almost 50 years now and believe me I have witnessed far worse seasons than last year but I had already decided not to renew my season ticket long before the end of the season. This was for a number of reasons, one was I missed a large number of games last season due to work commitments. As a result I probably lost money on the deal and lets face it, I don't think buying tickets on a one-off basis is going to be a problem next season. Also getting to evening games is often difficult for me. The deciding factor for me however was the disturbing way the club is being run at the moment, which has come to a head with the disgraceful treatment of McDermott. I am seriously worried about the direction the club is heading in at the moment.

I would have been more likely to have cancelled my season ticket had the owners NOT taken steps to improve things from last season. I don't get this slamming of the owners whom I believe are trying hard to get us into a stable situation and improve our performances. Give them a chance , after all without them clearing our debt where on earth would we be now.

I've tweeted loads but I don't expect any change regarding Brian. He should have been given a long term deal to bring through the youth, with no investment visible the only way is via the youth set up. This has proven great value over the last few years.
But what manager in their right mind would sign up to a club who's sacked their most recent boss in 6 months. No-one worth having.
I'm not renewing my ST, my belief in these Thai's is zero, they are only here to make money out of the surrounding land. That done they'll scarper pronto leaving what behind I shudder to think.

Quite simply Paddy.....why did they bother to hire him in the first place only to sack him a few weeks later?

Total incompetance or just ignorance?

And yes...thanks for clearing the debts.....help yourself to the car park

Why should we give them a chance when they won't give a manager a chance?

As a fan, where the support of your local football club is something irrational, which makes us more than mere customers, we are in a no win situation.

If you have been a ST holder and withdraw your support in protest, then you run the risk of accelerating the doomsday scenario (if the conspiracy theorists are to be believed, ie: the new owners just want the property development bit and will run the club down til it is non-meaningfull).

The lower the funds provided by fans, the more you play into this scenario.

On the other hand, you could renew your ST and support whatever team wears the hoops, whilst maintaining a critical view of the owners, if that's what you believe.

Ultimately, you have to pay to play

our form has declined with our finances. Reductions in parachute payments and continued loss of key player s, not replaced. It would be fuxking odd if Adkins wasnt slughtly better than what followed

And u mean McDermott. Previous youth team coach here?

ST's were slow in being renewed so the Thai's took action.

A bit more optimism with a new manager on the horizon should see many more renewals by the deadline.

I renewed my season ticket today, but I may regret it..... I left it late because the club take the money straight away and since the deadline was nowhere near, why would I want to renew early? I now get an extra month before my credit card statement comes through.

If they want earlier than early renewals, they should try offering additional discounts or incentives or do what the likes of Amazon do and take payment details and only charge fans/process the order on a specified date.

Who is left of the structure that made the club what it is ? Takes years to build a castle yet seconds to demolish it.
