Top Flight Even if the Thai owners are genuine and really do want to make RFC a success. They don't have the knowledge, experience or competence to successfully manage the football club. They are out of their depth and are making mistakes.

Would be interesting to do a comparison between the knowledge, experience and competence SJM had when he took over the club.

Top Flight I'm still feeling p*ssed off with our Thai owners.

I thought I would have been feeling alright by now. But nothing feels right about Reading Football Club anymore. It's a strange feeling. RFC feels so wrong at the moment. This is the sickest I've ever felt about our football club. I can't see us playing in the Premier League again in my lifetime. We had our moment. Now it's gone. We are heading back to our historical norm of third tier football. Our playing budget is probably going to be very similar to that of Swindon Town and Oxford United in the next couple of years. We're just going back to where we belong. A third rate football club.

Even if the Thai owners are genuine and really do want to make RFC a success. They don't have the knowledge, experience or competence to successfully manage the football club. They are out of their depth and are making mistakes.

Boo freaking Hoo.

So what if we never get back into the Prem? When I started supporting the club (which was only 15 years ago) I never thought we were going to get there in my lifetime, I always thought we were a million miles away but we got there. My dad and his brothers started supporting the club in the late 60's early 70's and they thought we were never going to get to the top division. If they thought that then why support the club in the first place?

Yes being part of the elite is obviously nice, but it isn't the be all and end all, well not for me anyway. We are only as good as the level in which we are currently competing in, if that happens to be the Prem great, if it happens to be in league two, great as well. The idea of being a supporter of the club is you stick it out through thick and thin. At school, I could have easily chosen to support Man Utd or Arsenal (who were the two best teams at the time) but that didn't interest me in the slightest. I don't want to support a team that I have no connection with, that success is a given - where is the fun in that?!

It's a struggle at the moment, we can all agree on that, but at the end of the day it's football. That's it, it isn't life and death, the world will continue to turn if Reading are top of the Prem or bottom of the football league.

If you want instant success and lots of glory then I'm afraid you're supporting the wrong club. But for me, these hard times and getting through these hard times make those rare moments of success, even more precious and feel like even more of an achievement and you can celebrate them harder.

In terms of the manager I think Zola would be a good appointment as would Stam at the end of the day it's ultimately down to the players on the pitch to perform, if the man coming in can get them motivated, great, then he is the right man regardless of any previous experience.

Some people on here might need to take a look at themselves and have a bit of a reality check as to why they started supporting a club like Reading in the first place.

.

You appear to have forgotten there's a division called the championship between the premier league and the 3rd tier, and that's pretty much where we "belong" now as a club.

Even if we dropped to the third tier, we wouldn't be Swindon, happy to get crowds above 7000. That's drama queen talk.

Hendo, I've been watching Reading since the mid 80s and I've seen us in all four divisions. I've supported Reading week in week out through thick and thin. I was more than happy to see us struggle next season and not spend any money on the team. My only expectation was for us to fight a relegation battle and stay up with Brian in charge.

I'm just saying that I have a bad feeling at the moment. I'm not even sure what the feeling is, but it feels wrong. I've witnessed a lot of Reading FC dissapointments and relegations. But I have never felt this sick feeling that I feel right now. I love Reading FC and don't really care what division we're in. But, something just doesn't feel right at the moment.

Seriously? Your response was basically 'I've supported reading for ages but I've got a bad feeling' (lolz)

Jeez, Some people, just don't cope well with change.

Chill, Let's just see what the summer window brings, when it opens. A new manager will be along sooner, rather than later.

Stam has seen nearly a grand traded on him on Betfair today. Up until yesterday only 850 quid had been traded on the whole market. This sort of trading would indicate something is likely to happen sooner rather than later.

Still stunned by the sacking. He didn't deserve that...w@nkers.....never gave him a proper chance.
Me wonders if Ian Royals vision of Neil Warnock that he said 3 months ago is coming to fruition.

Highly unlikely to be a English/British manager. The Thai's actions in the last year have likely earned them a reputation that means managers from this country won't want to go anywhere near them.

I am happy to experience the Thai way for awhile. If I owned the club and was recommended Adkins, Clarke and McDermott with zero return I would want to have a go at recruitment myself.

Hope it's Stam and look forward to new method and ways!

Looks like you were right Dave. You said it would be a 2 year deal and that it would be announced this week. You have good connections in the ticket office.

I hope Stam is given the proper support and time to be able to successfully do the job. Time that was not afforded to Adkins, Clarke and certainly not to McDermott.

If the Thais sack this guy too early the backlash against them will be fierce. He now needs proper backing and time.

Jaap, you have our support. Do your best.

Bit rich for you to be saying "you have our support" TF.

You've been slagging of his lack of experience and stating how he'll definitely get us relegated next year ever since the rumour started.

Hopefully he'll get confirmed this week and people can start actually giving him a chance and stop slagging off both him and the club.

He has been appointed our manager. Of course I'm going to support him. Now is the time to move on from our previous arguments and get behind the new boss.

I thought this was a debating forum where different people put different arguments across? I don't think it is wrong to question the Thai ownership for sacking a perfectly good manager after JUST FIVE MONTHS!! A manager who has an excellent track record where he has won a title, taken us to a play off final and 3 cup quarter finals. It is not wrong to question why you would sack such a manager and look to appoint someone with no experience whatsoever.

Anyhow, now it has been done. Stam is our manager. I hope the Thai ownership give him proper support and enough time so that he can be successful. If they sell his best players from under his nose and then sack him after five months then I think there will be a lot of people questioning the ownership. Don't you?

Let's support Jaap Stam. That means us and it also means the Thai owners. We all have to be pulling in the same direction. Sadly Brian wasn't supported by too large a section of our fan base and he wasn't backed by the owners.

I know completely irrelevant now but Mick McCarthy lead Ipswich to a 14th, then 9th, 6th and 7th finish respectively in his almost 4 seasons in charge, joining in late November the first season AND haven't paid over £1m for anyone, only recently spending the most at 3 quarters of that.

In addition the Tractor Boys have paid the League Two outfit £750,000 - a record fee under boss Mick McCarthy with Webster having signed a three-year contract.
