They wouldn't be running that without a tip off from probably Stam's agent.

Now reported in the EP

http://www.getreading.co.uk/sport/footb ... y-11436715

On the downside he is unknown as a coach/manager but then everyone has to start somewhere. He also does not know our youngsters but would hope he would listen to Eamonn Dolan and make sure he is up to speed with them a quickly as possible.

On the upside the guy is a world renowned international player and a big name so should be attractive for any player to come to Reading that we would like to bring to the club. On top of that he was a class defender so he should be able to make us strong defensively and certainly be able to recognise defensive talent when it comes a calling. An if he can get that right we should have the basis for something....

He can speak English he's played at the top level in this country for a top side and therefore knows what it takes to succeed. Will the Championship come as shock to him? Who knows, if he does his homework properly and listens to those with experience in the division then he got every chance.

Lastly, I would hope that he would have some budget to work with so he is not right up against it in what is his first management role.

I don't get why people are banging on about experience....McD didn't have any when he got the job and got us promoted, Pardew didn't have any when he got the job and got us promoted.

We've gone with experience before in Clarke and Adkins and they didn't do much for us.

The fact is Stam will have playing experience, the experience of playing under some of the worlds best managers and that knowledge is worth 10x whatever some coaching badge can give you

I'm plesaed to see him arrive

Welcome Japp. I trust you have the full story from the owners and that you will be backed - unlike the last poor sod who got the job.

72 bus Terrific, never played in the Chump, no idea about the players or teams in this league, absolutely no experience of managing a football club at any level, but the owners have heard of him because he played for Man U who sell a lot of shirts in Thailand so he must be good.

Skybet have us 7/1 for promotion, they really need to go and have a lie down.

Terrific - absolutely - great news.

Adkins, Clarke - they knew the league - done them the world of good at Reading.

Someone has got to start somewhere - thought that was the Reading way you lot wanted!!

There are some negatives - there are a whole load of positives too and I for one am delighted with this news...
