that is a sh*t situation where you can get imprisoned for 2 1/2 years, lose your highly paid career and become a public hate figure yet later get it overturned with not much more than a 'sorry about all that Chedwyn, no hard feelings though eh!'

agree it's potentially no ones fault, just a truly horrible situation. If he is not guilty then I hope he gets a good 3-4 years of smashing goals in and earning some decent money.

Aside from the false rape accusation. What happens to the girl if he is acquitted?

Probably nothing, and probably rightly so, depending on the new evidence.

IIRC she's said all along that she doesn't remember what happened in the hotel room so it's not really her fault either, it's a quirk of the law (in some ways).

It's not like she was lying about not consenting as such, so I don't think there's any element of perjury or wasting Police time (again, depends on this new evidence I guess).

This new evidence is intriguing.

Is it possible they have some sort of evidence the accuser lied? I can't see many other reasons for quashing the conviction - they all admit there was sex so no physical evidence. It can't be a mobile video else that would have been available previously and I doubt there's a witness that's come forward with a a reliable tale of "yes, I heard her agree to fcuk them both"

The case is all about consent and always was essentially her word against his (theirs).

True, although it wasn't even her word against theirs in the end, it was a technicality of whether she was capable of consenting to Evans due to the state she was in.

Thinking about it a bit more and it think you're right, surely the evidence has to be something that casts doubt on how incapacitated she was when she consented* to Evans joining in.

Would someone with a lot of time, maybe Ian or snowball review the whole thread and do a table of how many black players arrested compared to white? I think it would be 80/20.

Ex-England striker Marcus Bent has been fined for having cocaine on him at the Chessington World of Adventures children's theme park.

Former Premier League star Bent - who starred for Everton, Birmingham City, Blackburn Rovers, Middlesbrough and Crystal Palace among others during his 17-year professional career - appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court this morning.

Bent, who lives in East Molesey, Southwest London, pleaded guilty to one count of possessing cocaine - a class A drug - at the theme park yesterday.

The former England Under 21 international, who scored 113 goals in 574 professional games for 14 different clubs, was fined £385, with £85 costs.

The fallen star is now believed to work in the oil industry after retiring from football.

In September last year he was charged with affray and possession of a Class A drug after cops used a taser to arrest him at his Esher home.

He had called 999 himself after believing intruders were in his house - and confronted the police with a meat cleaver and kitchen knife while under the influence of the drug.

Then in February this year he admitted to one charge of affray and possession of cocaine and was given a suspended 12-month prison sentence, a two-month curfew and 200 hours of compulsory unpaid work.

Chessington World of Adventures is a popular theme park near Kingston upon Thames - about 12 miles southwest of London.

It incorporates a zoo with more than 1,000 animals and popular family attractions with names like Pirates Cove, Forbidden Kingdom and Land of the Dragons.

Paging Seb to the thread.

How has his suspended 12 month sentence not been triggered? Or was the 12 month sentence for the affray not the possession of class As.

I see all the news outlets are conveniently leaving out the word "suspended" in their headlines.

I might be wrong but I think that's because it's not suspended, it's just going to be served on probation.

Obviously doesn't make for such a good headline though!
