It really does show what can be achieved without the top talent that people think you have to have to compete though (it can obviously help!).

I do think that the lack of depth helps them a bit too (sounds a bit daft that I know).

How many times does (sorry did) Hodgson get blasted for sticking with the same old faces and not giving players like Noble, Cresswell or Drinkwater a chance because they've had a good run of form. How many times have you heard someone say England should pick the form players?

Every time that the squad gets changed it's taking away from the idea of building a club like team and the England manager is forever being criticised for not taking certain players or playing a certain way. Coleman hasn't quite had that problem (he did get a lot of stick when they were shit of course) and it probably helps them build that spirit and that team ethic that's served them well.

They don't have the fear that seems to cripple the England players because they don't get the expectations and the criticism if they don't look world beaters. Imagine the abuse that Rooney would've got if he'd been as anonymous as Bale during this tournament (his lucky goals aside!).

They are suggesting that mentality makes everything feel achievable in all walks of life, nothing is out of your reach.

the whole thing is a bit embarrassing for Luxembourg, which has (just about) a larger population than Iceland, but has never looked like achieving what Iceland has done.

Belgium aren't over-rated at all. World class team with world class players

I was thinking earlier, that between them Belgium and England have rather a lot of their best players at sides in England who have choked this season.

Spurs - contrived to finish third in a two horse race by utterly bottling the last few games
Vertonghen, Alderweireld, Dembele, Walker, Rose, Dier, Alli, Kane

Chelsea - defended their title by being a 10th placed shambles
Hazard, Courtois, Cahill,

Man City - great squad, finished 4th
Hart, Sterling, Denayer, De Bruyne

Not exactly the kind of season you want to take into a major international tournament and suggests quite a lot of mental weakness.

Belgium have some fantastic players, although not as good or as many as people like to make out. I'm just not convinced they have a team. I mean, they lost to the first good team they played at the World Cup, lost to the only good side they played at the Euros and went out to Wales. The record of this 'golden generation' of theirs is remarkably like England's traditional performance.

As far as I could tell, Belgium have four good, if not very good strikers. All of whom would struggle to play in a partnership with the others in the squad.

An absolute waste and ludicrous management.

Yeah I thought Belgium were like England - particularly in the Wales match: play very well for periods, look like they could score a hatful but then when placed under pressure, start to look very brittle with no players looking to take a lead or knowing what the plan is supposed to be.
