bobby1413 Any other thoughts on pubs for this match? Nothing obvious jumping out, I see some people mention the old town area.

The Hop Inn in Old Town. Sells Ramsbury Brewery plus a good range of guest beers. Decent cider. Various lagers.

No frill. No music. No food. Reasonably priced. Next door to the entrance to the Arts Centre.

If that's busy. The Plough Inn (Arkells) isn't bad.

For such a shit place it seems to have a lot more pub options than Reading.

You joking?

Reading has a ton of options for pubs. I think the pubs mentioned are pretty much every pub in Swindon.

Unless you mean in terms of near the ground. If that's the case then yea I can't argue

The Hop Inn can get busy and it has a capacity of about 10. None of the beer is to my taste in there either.

bobby m's syrup Swindon is pretty much an unmitigated Shit hole. Dreariest large town I have ever seen. Makes Reading look like Bath. I used to work for FGW and went there (too) often. There was a reasonable pub on the road down from the station IIRC, which sold a decent pint, but don't hold your breaths

Swindon is nicer than Reading these days tbf.

As a Swindon fan raised in the Town but currently living in Reading I can pretty much confirm that Swindon is definitely not nicer! Well.. It's nicer on your wallet. There is indeed a great pub selection though, slowly decreasing but there are many options in which I'm sure you'll be welcome as any rivalry between the two sides seems to have long since died.

Swindon still has no answer to Purple Turtle though. Not sure if that's a good or a bad thing!

Nope. As a regular in Swindon. Swindon is definitely nicer than Reading these days. Reading suffers from London syndrome. People aren't as friendly.

You being a regular in Swindon surely makes Reading a significantly better place for the rest of us....

I don't mind a bit of berating but can you at least include a bit of humour next time. I bet it's fun going to the pub with you talking about paint drying and your kids.

Was a grim walk from the Train station to the ground - Swindon really reminds me of Slough
