Following yesterday’s 2-0 victory against Plymouth Argyle, we will learn our fate for round two this evening.
The draw takes place live on Sky Sports 1, following the conclusion of the televised Luton Town vs Aston Villa fixture.
The victory was secured courtesy of goals by Joey van den Berg and Roy Beerens, ensuring that a potential banana-skin was avoided.
Qualifying for the next round is not to be sniffed at – Championship sides Barnsley, Birmingham, Sheffield Wednesday, Brentford, Ipswich, Wigan, Rotherham and Huddersfield have all fallen to lower-league opposition at the first stage.
The Royals, along with the other clubs that won their first-round ties, will be joined in the next stage by the 13 clubs from the Premier League which aren’t competing in Europe, as well as Newcastle and Norwich who received a bye. All of those clubs will be seeded, along with 10 of the winners from the first round – we won’t know for sure whether that will include us until the conclusion of this evening’s games.
All second-round ties are scheduled to take place during the week commencing Monday 22nd August.
I'd like us to get Accrington or Morecambe or any one of those sides left who we have never played or haven't played for years and years...
