Well if you do make it to Stag Meadow Tuesday, as you can imagine, I'll be there.

...giving it serious thought but it's one of two dozen games locally, some of which are equally tempting. (for the neutral :wink: )

I didn't go to Wolves on Saturday, instead I watched my local non league side Wealdstone FC in action against Margate.

In goal for the Gate was Lewis Ward, one of our academy youngsters and a decent keeper he looks too. He was quite tall and shouts his mouth off organising the Gate defence. He had the p*ss taken out of him a little bit when the Gate found themselves two nil down because he wasn't shouting any more. But overall, he put in a solid performance in goal. He came and caught all the corners, looked assured, didn't make any mistakes, organised the defence, made a couple of flying saves to keep out strikes that were heading for the top corner and looks a good prospect for RFC. I would even go so far as to say that he was the best keeper I have seen down at Wealdstone since I started taking in a few games towards the end of last season. That's about 5 games in total so far.

He couldn't do anything about the 2 Wealdstone goals, they were outstanding strikes.

In the crowd was Mikele Leigertwood carrying out his duties as our new loan academy manager. My kid walked straight past him in his Reading FC shirt and I don't think Mik noticed he was so engrossed in the matchday programme. Probably didn't want anyone to bother him. My kid didn't notice Leigertwood either. He is too young to know who Leigertwood is. He was just a little moosh when Ledge was firing in our winner against Forest to send us to the Prem. I had to explain to my kid who the Reading FC legend was in the Wealdstone crowd keeping an eye on Lewis Ward.

Final score: Wealdstone 2 Margate 1

Future Reading number 1.

The best save of the afternoon.

It looks like it was going in, but he got his hands on it and sent it over the bar.

Assured handling by the young lad. Commands his box.

Beaten by a great finish.

Four Of Clubs Kings Langley 2-3 Slough Town 'Rebels' recover from 2-0 down early 1st half with goals from Dunn & Dobson before H/T and Mooney secured the three points on 83'. They host Stratford at Beaconsfield SYCOB on Tue.

Enjoyed this one, after Slough woke up midway through the first half. A hot day, on a hard dry pitch, Slough did make hard work of limited opposition, but 2 wins in 3 is a reasonable start. By the way FoC, it's Charlie Moone scoring the goals at the moment, not Callum Mooney as the PA are reporting :lol: We'll see how they fare against Stratford tonight in (hopefully) the last night game at SYCOB.

Four Of Clubs Then St Ives at the same venue NEXT Saturday 20th, following which, if all is on schedule and the safety boxes have been ticked, they'll have their first home match back in Slough at Arbour Park vs HandY, on B/H Mon, after 14 yrs exile.[/i]

Hugely excited by the new ground pics, can't wait to get there and see what it looks like (with the potential added bonus of James Harper pointing at things)...

Windsor 4-2 Guildford City

Wow!! What a game. Best I've seen at Stag Meadow in a long time.

We have a proper team now. Guildford are no slouches and played some really good football at times, but we showed some sparks of brilliance and a very solid defence.

Some cracking goals and full blooded tackles. And a very gobby No 3 for Guildford who lost the plot with the Windsor fans big time making the result all the more enjoyable.

Early days but I think there's going to be plenty to enjoy this season which should hopefully see the missing numbers start coming back to the Meadow.

... was lurking at this one too 8) ... often try to get in an early season tussle here and agreed it was quite a good contest in which City played their part but demonstrably have issues through the centre of their defence/midfield.
Crucially goals either side of HT gave Windsor some daylight and took the fight out of their visitors until it was too late. Up until then I thought they actually looked better with the ball than the hosts and Perry Coles is continuing his good predatory form since moving over from Camberley - quite surprised they managed to get him - 80 goals in the last two seasons.
Couple of points as an occasional visitor :
... what's with the new free 'brochure style' programme - I thought I'd been given a flyer for some Ballet at the Royal! :D
... and a 'double-issue' with the previous Sat too :|
... no bitter in the clubhouse? Or is this just early season stock issues - didn't even notice any bottles - sure they were plentiful on a previous visit not all that long ago?

Will keep a close eye on progress and pop back before long

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Selection of Results from elsewhere on a very busy night locally:
NAT
Bromley 2-2 Aldershot
Woking 0-1 FGR
NAT-N
Brackley 2-3 Alfreton
NAT-S
Bps Stortford 1-2 Hungerford Town - 'Crusaders' recover with two 2nd half goals trailed at HT - up in 2nd place behind W-S-M on GD.
Maidenhead Utd 5-0 Hemel - four more for Dave Tarpey
Oxford City 0-3 Wealdstone
SOUTHP
Basingstoke 1-1 Hayes & Yeading att over 400
SOUTH1C
Chalfont St P 1-0 Beaconsfield SYCOB
Farnboro 4-0 Egham - incl. one from Jamie Cureton
Marlow 2-1 Kidlington
SOUTH1S&W
Diddy 4-0 Winchester City :shock:
Wantage 1-1 Evesham - first battling point for 'Freds' - also sounds as if they were competitive in the 3-1 defeat down in Devon (Bideford) last w/e, with 2 disallowed goals and a missed penalty
- Hereford early pace-setters here with 4 from 4 - Supermarine can draw level if they win at Slimbridge tonight (Wed)
CCLP
Badshot Lea 2-1 Knaphill
Bedfont & F 1-3 Abbey Rangers
Chertsey 0-3 Westfield
Epsom & Ewell 1-5 CB Hounslow :shock: - surprisingly big win away for the new boys at the 'Salts'
Farnham 1-4 Camberley Town
- Hartley travel to CWU this evening and Hanworth Villa make the short trip over to Bedfont Sports
CCL1
Eversley & Cal. 2-2 Cove - maybe not all doom and gloom for vistors, who'd looked as if they'd struggle after relegation last term - opened the season losing both games 1-6 away
Frimley G 6-0 Sheerwater
HELLP - some really intriguing scores in this league last night - no clear favourite emerging though it usually goes to the side that can keep a run going after Xmas - so not too much to read into early season form
Ardley United 0 - 5 Flackwell Heath - Heathans bounce back after their unexpectedly heavy mauling at Brimscomb on Sat
Bracknell Town 0 - 2 Highmoor-Ibis - another minor set-back for a lots of people's pre-season favourites - they do seem to be frail at the back - by contrast H/I were described as 'very solid' and could be a (doubtless unpopular with fans of other clubs) contender for the upper positions.
Brimscombe & Thrupp 4 - 0 Carterton
Henley Town 1 - 3 Brackley Town Saints - still looking grim already for both the league's new boys
Lydney Town 3 - 0 Oxford City Nomads
Tuffley Rovers 1 - 2 Thatcham Town - good result for Kingfishers at previously 100% Tuffley
{Mon} Binfield 4 - 0 Burnham
- got to this one too : 'Moles' go top after another big win - sit just ahead of Highmoor/IBIS on GD. Thame will go top on GD should they get a maximum at RWBT this evening.
Tbf 'Blues' competed gamely in this contest with what looked like a pretty threadbare squad, especially late on when they brought on some lively looking front men to try and chase the game - very unlucky not to score.
In truth Binfield were in energy-saving containment mode by then. Tuttle also looking decidedly disinterested in affairs - rumours are that he wasn't present for Saturday's loss to Tuffley and that most team affairs are now being handled by Asst Mgr Luther Blissett.
- 'Yellamen' in action tonight too, with a potentially tough trip to Highworth.
Finally: fairly full program in the Wessex midweek - most notably in Div One Alton get a good win over promising newcomers Baffins 2-0 @ Anstey Pk. Pewsey lose by the same score at early leaders Downton.
Tadley trek down to Andover New Street tonight.
No idea re the booze situation, I rarely drink at games but they usually have bottles of Guardsman or some such. No draft beers I believe - ends up with too much waste. And the programme - dunno really, I don't bother with that either. We often do a flyer for a midweek game if following on from a Saturday home match, then double up with Saturday's full programme.
Sod Perry Coles :D - what about Keanu Williams - what a goal that was! And only 19.
17 yo keeper, 2 other teenagers on the wings... All very promising.
But if you think that was only "quite a good contest" it's a good job you haven't been down there often during the last 2 years. :shock:
A mate of mine was at the Binfield / Burnham game and said Burnham were terrible and could have lost by 8 or 10, Binfield having missed 4 or 5 one on ones and other decent chances.
... can only write about what I see :wink: - got a very good view of Coles' sumptuous drive for their equaliser.
- also was directly in-line behind Knights' effort for the 2nd, just before the break - I s'pose a curmudgeonly view would refer that to the 'dubious goals commitee' - looked to me as if it was rolling just wide and the chasing CB managed to slice the ball into his own net. Windsor lad deserved it as his though.
Re Williams goal: if that was the 2nd half opener - sadly I was re-acquainting myself with the barely translucent nature of the ends of your stand at the time :| - Decided to plonk myself up there for 2nd period and had walked too far up the steps as the attack built, so actually witnessed bugger all of the finish. :oops:
My feeling, as a neutral, was that it could have been, and promised to be so much better as a contest, had Guildford not proved so porous through the middle of the park - and to a certain extent down the right. That shouldn't detract from how well Windsor exploited these weaknesses but they were rather 'escorted' towards the goal by the visiting defence.
Oddly enough I thought both the City FBs coped well, up against some extremely potent flank players. It was their CMs and the big right-sided CB that were at fault for three of Windsor's goals - well constructed moves though they were.
Home keeper looked very good indeed - doesn't have the natural build of a keeper and had little chance with either of the goals - nonetheless, could have a bright future.
A mate of mine was at the Binfield / Burnham game and said Burnham were terrible and could have lost by 8 or 10, Binfield having missed 4 or 5 one on ones and other decent chances.
... indeed their (Burnham's) starting line-up looked very much like a 'throw together an XI that can stand-up' ; a mix of the old, the incapable and the very young. Oddly enough they were much stronger off the bench. I think most spectators (att 151) turned up expecting a rout before the game but Burnham battled hard particularly late on when the game was already long lost.
I too was directly behind Knight's 2nd and it was definitely going wide.
Did you hear the "banter" with their No 3 towards the end?
We were slowing the game down and at a couple of corners he ran over with the ball and "kindly" placed it in the quadrant in an effort to speed things along. One of our wags shouted "it doesn't make any difference you know, you've still got to wait for us to take it..."
He looked round, saw a couple of stout Windsor fans in team shirts and shouted - "nice to see you're wearing Windsor shirts, you still can't play fcuking football you w4nkers..."
Kind of carried on from there - he got very wound up, used the C bomb a couple of times with plenty of accusations of being fat, abuse duly returned of course - followed by the fans singing "we're fat, and were 4-2 up, we're fat, and etc. etc."
All part of the fun of non league football eh?! :D
...yup cos he started and scored from the spot vs Longlevens
... and sadly luck ran out for the Crusaders this PM outfoxed by Eastbourne - though reports suggest it was closer than 0-2
(2nd attempt at posting - ultra sensitive touchpad on laptop wiped previous post - after about 1/2 hr of editing :evil: :evil: :evil: )
Saturday 20th August
FA Cup Preliminary Round
Hereford FC 4 - 2 Alvechurch FC - Bulls recover from two down incl brace from ex-Diddy man Mills. Actually scored three in three minutes.
85 Crawley Green 0-3 Uxbridge
86 Bedford Town 1-2 (AFC) Dunstable (Town?) League and FA sites at odds here as to which Dunstable team it was visiting the Eyrie! Has to be AFC though, as Town are in the Southern Premier and were drawing a blank in their league game at home to Chesham :roll:
87 Sun Sports 2-0 Northwood
88 Arlesey Town 1-1 Potters Bar Town
89 AFC Rushden & Diamonds 4-3 Northampton Sileby Rangers
105 Spelthorne Sports 2-3 Andover Town
106 Farnborough 5-1 Longlevens
107 Ascot United 4-3 Didcot Town att 77 less than half for the previous round which is puzzling - Yellamen stun Diddy and progress to host Tonbridge Angels in the next round - probably need to switch it to Fri/Sun to go for a bigger audience?
108 Slimbridge 3-0 Bedfont Sports
109 Chertsey Town 3-0 AFC Hayes
158 Bridgwater Town 0-6 Plymouth Parkway
159 Portishead Town 2-0 Shepton Mallet
160 Clevedon Town 0-1 Barnstaple Town
NAT
Braintree Town 2-0 Aldershot Town
Woking 1-3 Dagenham&Redbridge - 'Cards' worryingly poor start sees them 2nd bottom with only 1 pt from their first 5 games
- Tranmere top with 5 from 5, Daggers tucked in 2nd
NAT-N
Stockport County 2-4 Brackley Town
NAT-S
Bishop's Stortford 0-1 Bath City
East Thurrock United 5-1 Gosport Borough
Ebbsfleet United 2-2 Hemel Hempstead Town
Hampton & Richmond Borough 2-2 Truro City
Hungerford Town 0-2 Eastbourne Borough – Crusaders slip to 4th amongst a cluster of 5 clubs on 10 points – with W-S-M losing to Dartford the new leaders are Magpies with 12 points. :D
– slightly confused by shifting positions and disappointingly the Beeb site’s table has not been updated correctly; tbf it’s a shambles – the official Vanarama one seems OK.
Not sure I can trust them to have got all of the Cup scores right either and naturally the official FA one is all over the shop too :x , so have had to get the results from the individual league sites which takes several times longer of course .
Maidenhead United 1-0 Chelmsford City – another for Dave Tarpey,
Oxford City 2-2 Concord Rangers
Poole Town 1-0 Margate
Welling United 0-1 St Albans City
Weston-Super-Mare 1-2 Dartford
Whitehawk 0-0 Wealdstone
SOUTHP
Banbury United 1-2 Dorchester Town
Basingstoke Town 3-0 Kettering Town
Cambridge City 2-2 Hayes & Yeading United HandY grab point with 93' leveller
Dunstable Town 0-0 Chesham United
Slough Town 3-0 St Ives Town - goals (allegedly :? ) from Hollis, Moone & Barney
CCLP
Hartley Wintney 2-3 Bedfont & Feltham –real shock for current leaders at home to the previously pointless newboys, who’d arrived with the worst defensive record :GD -12 in 3 games
Raynes Park Vale 2-3 Windsor
- Windsor up to 2nd with 3 from 3 – can grab leaders’ spot if they get points from Tue nights’ game H v Bedfont Sports. Should they only draw then Hanworth Villa might leap-frog them with a win at AFC Hyaes.
Westfield the only other side with 100% (but with 2 from 2) go to Camberley the same night. Hartley trek many the mile down beyond the New Forest for a Hants Cup tie at Ringwood.
CCL1
Balham 2-2 Ash United
Cobham 2-0 Sheerwater
Cove 0-3 Worcester Park
Dorking 0-5 AC London Chicks well and truly 'plucked' at home by newboys and league leaders
Epsom Athletic 1-2 Bagshot - other new side pick up their first points
Farleigh Rovers 3-5 Eversley & California
Staines Lammas 6-1 South Park Reserves
HELLP
Brackley Town Saints 0-0 Oxford City Nomads
Lydney Town 4-1 Burnhama rumble on the Chat Room coming through early today that Tuttle has already stepped down as Blues boss – one of three managers to depart in this division already just in the last couple of days; Carterton’s game was a called off earlier as a result. The other departure being at RWBT – rumoured to be linked to lack of playing budget – odd as they lured one of the divisions’ top marksmen of recent years TJ Bohane from Highworth.
Royal Wootton Bassett 0-1 Binfield Moles extend their 100% record and stay top – Highmoor & Thame who were involved in Cup games, also have perfect records and a game in hand. Thame play midweek at home to Bracknell but were badly mauled by Nor Lye in their Cup tie this PM.
Thatcham Town 2-1 Henley Town - Kingfishers edge out the Red Kites who remain without a point so far.
HELL1E
AFC Aldermaston 3-1 Sandhurst Town
Fleet Spurs 2-1 Alton
Pewsey Vale 1-9 {NINE} Hamble Club
RPV 2-3 Windsor
Crikey, I think my previous visit was for a night game. Seeing this place in daylight really is quite a shock.
Well, with a couple of Tuesday evening's heros not available, plus the slope and general bobbliness of the pitch I think Windsor decided on a bit of pragmatism and there wasn't much football on display to savour.
That said Windsor were (almost) always in complete control and after going 2-0 up shortly after the break one would have been forgiven for expecting another couple to be added to the scoreline.
However, when experienced player coach Ashley Smith inexplicably / instinctively / inexcusably stuck his arm out as a no danger ball came across him in the penalty area in a manner befitting a 9 year old in his 1st game in defence (sorry Ashley, but it was that bad!), the resultant penalty being converted, it suddenly became uncomfortable for Windsor.
RPV duly got level and it was only a 90th minute winner that restored the lead Windsor had looked so comfortable holding for much of the game.
3 from 3 - hoping for quick revenge on Tuesday night against Bedfont Sports after our collapse in the FA Cup against them 2 weeks ago.
...can't usually believe anything on the Beeb nor FA site tbh - but this has come from the (usually) reliable Hellenic site and would have been SMS's in by someone from both clubs?
No mention of the attendance on either club websites - haven't checked twitter - Diddy claimed their 'faithful' outnumbered the home support though.
Apparently Yellamen's 4th (they were 3 up at one point but Diddy clawed two back on 77' & 84') was described as a spectacular 25yd lob by sub Regragui. Diddy got a third with almost the last kick of the game.
Q.E.D. The Beeb are currently showing Marlow as having won 1-0 at SYCOB this PM (Sun) - att 204 - other sources are showing the correct score of 2-2. :|
I was there and there were definitely 40 or 50 Diddy fans there, 77 would sound about right it wasn't many from the home support.
We were absolutely crap and 4-3 flattered us, can't work us out at the minute we are good one game horrendous the next. Too many individual errors at the back, and too many changes. Hopefully a bit more settled from Saturday once all of our injured guys are back as they should be.
The 4th goal was a long ball which our keeper had to rush out and try to head clear, it went straight to their guy who lobbed it over his head from 25 yards, was a decent finish but wouldn't say spectacular. He'd have been disappointed if he missed.
http://www.bedfontsportsclub.co.uk/team ... /1-2212027
- I know home side went down to 10 men. Reportedly CB Lewis Leonetti left early in the week to join the Hellenic 'rich-boys' over at Thatcham.
Hellenic
Ascot United 3 - 2 Binfield att 138 - 'Moles' led 2-1 at HT - unbeaten start comes to an end but they stay top. Seven teams just behind them with games in hand - B/H w/e games are H v much-improving Tuffley who sit in 5th then a quick return game with a desperately poor Burnham - who they comfortably bt 4-0 a couple of weeks back.
Brackley Town Saints 1 - 2 Flackwell Heath
Highworth Town 0 - 4 Brimscombe & Thrupp
Oxford City Nomads 3 - 2 Henley Town - rough start for the 'Red Kites' - still no points but there a few others who are also in a very bad way - possibly worse then them - at the foot of the table - clash of the 'nul points' at Mill Lane on this Sat when Burnham visit :?
Thame United 3 - 3 Bracknell Town - 2 tough asks for Bracknell this w/e: travel to Thatcham ( who they did beat in the Cup) & Ascot
Tuffley Rovers 5 - 2 Lydney Town
Hants Sen Cup R1
Alton Town 6 - 1 Cove
Andover New Street 0 - 2 Lymington Town
Blackfield & Langley 7 - 1 Fleet Spurs
Ringwood Town 1 - 5 Hartley Wintney
Tadley Calleva 1 - 3 Fawley
Whitchurch United 0 - 4 Moneyfields
...very busy B/H coming up, with a double set of games for most 'local' clubs ... including the 'big homecoming' for Sluff on Monday - think I might leave it a while before I pop along to Arbour Park - they are actually building the place in phases - large stand not due for completion until early next year 8) - reportedly £8.5 million total investment - multi-sports community facility incl Rugby.
- will put up the Sat preview later.
Didn't it just!! :D
if we'd scored a pen just after HT I think we may well have won, but they made it 2-0 shortly afterwards, we got back to 2-1 with 12 mins left and were in the ascendancy then had a mystery straight red card. Nobody knew what is was for but no arguing from anyone so we guess he must have said something untoward to the ref. Hey ho.
They then scored 2 more in the last few minutes and we pulled one back.
We weren't great but were missing some players (isn't everyone?). I appreciate that it is hard to field the same team regularly when you are not paying the players but it would be good to see our best team play a few together and really get some momentum going.
Still, no-one is grumbling at 9 from 12.
Monday's opening game is all ticket, so indeed it might be best to wait (especially as there is no parking available apart from season ticket holders). The large stand scheduled for completion Spring 2017. Biggest concerns for most seem to be parking, and availability of beer on the opening day :lol: So far, over 1,000 tickets sold so might well sell out...
